Hi Guys,

I think I know the answer to my question already, but just checking.

We got given a piano a few years ago, with all the intent to learn to play it, but never did. We've now moved to a smaller house and don't really have room for it anymore. Just wondering if anybody could shed any light on it, or estimate a value (I understand it can't really be valued from photos, but just an estimation) or if it's a try and give it away job.

Photos in my OneDrive link below

It's a John Broadwood and Sons upright, serial number 263798 (based on my own research ages it early 60s). Apparently it's a former school piano which means it has re-enforced keys or something.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

My first inclination is to say it's not worth anything. I see a lot of these on Craigslist on Facebook that just need to be hauled to the dump. BUT (and I'll be curious what others chime in), the keyboard itself looks better than most (I'd almost say "pretty good"). I'd really be curious about how it SOUNDS and FEELS. Also, when was the last time it was tuned and/or had any regulation done. Really a piano tuner is going to be the one to tell you what kind of shape it's in.

That said, it's likely not worth much and more than likely should be "retired".

There are many others on here who know a LOT more than me that I'm sure will weigh in.

I do not know where you are so I cannot estimate a value, but it dates from 1963, and seems to be an upright of fair quality with moderate wear for its age. It probably could be a decent piano if everything checks out. Equivalent pianos in the US might go in the $500-1000 range, but if you are in a hurry to sell it, you might consider donating it. I would take it for a public school or a non-profit organization.

Broadwood made good quality pianos. At this age, though, condition trumps everything else.
