Hi ,

I am using Keyscape inside cubase elements 9 to record. For some reason the midi comes out with weird 'off' timings of the notes when I play it back after recording in cubase.

Here are 2 examples if you wouldn't mind listening to:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ooyqmt3kvy7hn89/1.mp3?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/icb2t517bsd82s8/2.mp3?dl=0

As you can hear in number 1, even though I recorded this bach piece perfectly in time it has come out like this! how strange!

No.2 I basically pressed middle C notes continuously in correct time, but it seems to have deleted certain note presses...again weird stuff!

Does anyone know what may be happening?

my laptop is more than capable of running any vst without glitches/drop outs. I played keyscape tonight and not one audio glitch (buffer size of 64) When I record there are no audible glitches, but the recorded midi is all wrong...

Many thanks

Mark

I don't own Cubase Elements, and have never tried it, so I don't know. You could try the same process in Reaper, just to see if the problem lies with Elements, or somewhere else.

You could also record the Prelude in C major, in Pianoteq, and even if you won't hear a few black keys, they'll still be recorded. I know that won't help you with Keyscape problems, but you need to find out where the weak link is.

Edit If you haven't done so already, go over all settings, are the right audio devices selected, bitrate, sample rate (48kHz, or 44.1kHz) and so on.

Quantization is ON. Turn it off...

Note that the OP is dealing with a MIDI file.

I never turned it on though so it can't be on, I did think it was this to begin with but I'll double check, doubt its as easy as fix as this though...

So can we conclude that quantizing kills solo piano music? smile

Not a problem!

Depends! If the focus is not the skill of the musicians (e.g. pop music) quantization is crucial. If it's classic jazz or a piano solo by a famous band/player, then usually it's not quantized but "usually" means when post-processing begins, all of the flaws are usually fixed/removed, including out of synch parts!

Otherwise, it'd take forever for a band to do a flawless performance in any studio which is going to cost an arm and a leg.

Music these days is very different from what it was back in the days.
