They were sold out immediately online, and the retail stores had lines before opening.

But someone, I won't say who (*points at self*) has an amazing husband who woke up early before work, got in line, and managed to score one as a surprise. 3hearts

He says it weighs almost 20 pounds. shocked

That's great! I definitely would love to get one once back on stock. What a great lego kit and to think I can have a grand piano in my little condo now smile

I just looked this up.

I’d love one of these but I just don’t have a place to put it.

Ideally I’d like a circular wood panelled room with a chandelier and this table in the centre with the Lego grand piano on top.

Wow that's great. I had an option to buy as a Lego VIP member but decided against it as I have no where to put it, it's too big to go on the piano!

I decided to spend the money on a new Bose speaker to listen to piano music instead!

Would be great to see some finished photos and get an idea how interesting it was to build.

I figured some of you would want pictures, so I took some as I went!

It was so much fun to build! They did a great job with generally reflecting the action of a piano. Obviously it's not as complicated as a true piano action, but it does pay homage to the major aspects of it: key and pivot point, free-swinging hammer, damper lifting mechanism. the pedal really does lift the dampers, and each damper comes up with key press. There's a fake string, a sound board, the rim, sound holes and harp, fold-back lid with hinges, open/close fallboard, sliding piano desk, legs on casters, adjustable height bench which I found particularly delightful... Really, just a joyful and fun build.

Some people seem to be inordinately disappointed that the piano doesn't play like they expected. They expected each key to make an actual sound, and that for sound to come out of the piano itself. But it doesn't. There's a laser that detects when ANY key is pressed, and it makes a bluetooth connection to a smartphone to play music. It also has a player piano function that lifts and lowers dampers and keys in a random fashion while the smartphone plays a piece. But I didn't build it for it to play. I have a piano that can play. I built it because it's cool and complicated and I got to have a ball building it.

Overall I spent about 7-10 hours on it.

Here is the player mechanism. It's not a part of any real piano, but it is the gear that makes the keys go up and down when your smartphone is playing something:

Thanks for sharing! Looks like a lot of fun. Worth the $350?

Good question. Hmm. I guess I've spent more than $350 on less than 7-10 hours of enjoyment (the time I took to build it), and I continue to get enjoyment out of looking at the finished product, so I guess so! I also plan on displaying it at work where the student dancers come through--I'm always looking for ways to connect with them over the music they hear every day in class. Give them reasons to talk to the accompanist, engage with the music and the piano as a way to develop their overall artistry.... It'll be a fun conversation piece!
