Oooh, that one was posted a couple months ago and taken down, I had assumed it was sold. They must have just reposted it. Thanks, that's a 2005! I'm considering a 2003 in Portland, with shipping included it's $4300 more than this one, but it has a 5 year warranty and the shop is excellent, very highly rated. I found a couple other 50s a bit closer, but they were 1979 and 1980. And when I get shipping quotes on my own from piano movers, I can never seem to get below $1200 for places around 250 to 350 miles away. Buying a used instrument from a dealer would be ideal, since their shipping is usually a lot less and sometimes free. But I am still searching private sellers, too. Thanks for the link! 👍😊

You’re welcome!

I’ve seen that one up for a while. I’ve been tempted but it’s probably too big a voice for my apartment.

Ask the seller if that radiator to the left of the piano stays off all the time. There is probably a radiator in that box under the window.

Yeah, agreed, that looks like a small space, and the lighting isn't great in the pics. Those tiny NYC apartments! There are 3 M&H 50s at Jim Laabs Music, but they are another place that I can't seem to make contact with. Anyway, two of them look a bit older, and one is a 2018 for $13900. Their shipping policy is confusing though, some of the writeups add an additional fee of $490, in addition to the shipping fee, but it's not on all their pianos. Their feedback is hot and cold, so I'm a bit reticent to try harder in reaching someone. They haven't answerd their "make us an offer" form I sent them last week, and I called a couple times, just to get an aswering machine, and that was during hours that they should have been open (they're one time zone over from me). So......yeah, I'm kind of in a holding pattern for now.

I'm wanting to just play one somewhere and see what the sound is like. I also wonder if it would be too much, but the ones I've seen played online sound gorgeous and the action is supposed to be superb. But it's been darn challenging, and I'm starting to despair of finding one close enough to try out.

Try again after NAMM is done and everyone is settled at home.

If you are willing to go to Canada to try one, there is a Mason & Hamlin dealer in Toronto, Merriam Pianos. I bought my AA from them and found them to be accommodating and helpful.

The piano looks like a great deal to me and it is in the same state in which you live.

I don’t think my apartment is tiny but I do compare how I live to how people live in Japan and not how people live in the US, lol.

M & H is no longer listed under new piano brands they sale.... but they have a lively 2003 BB under ‘pre-owned’

Unfortunately the ad for the 2003 BB implies that the piano has a full Renner action. As owner of a 2003 BB myself, I can assure you that it does not. Renner Blue hammers, yes - but not a full Renner action.

Agreed, I think it's established that M&H build their own actions, using some Renner components.

That was a thing of the past. There have been many different versions of M&H actions since the Burgett takeover. To the best of my knowledge at one point they used mostly Renner parts, later they used or included Chinese parts, and now all their pianos use WNG parts of their own manufacture.

No pressure, and I don't make a dollar off of a sale, but the owner dropped the price of that Model 50 to $6500:

https://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/msg/d/new-york-city-mason-hamlin-50-upright/7065526181.html

Sometimes what looks like a good deal is a good deal. If I played better, I'd buy it, but I have ordered a Yamaha DYUS1, a YUS1 with the Disklavier mechanism, to try to help me with my practice, and to have fun.

I haven't been watching!! 😲😲😲

Oh, wow, if only I could get there and play it right now! Why is my life so complicated??? Should I buy a train ticket?

Holy cow, enjoy your new piano! If I'm coming to NYC, let's meet for coffee! 😊

Yes, definitely, let’s sit down for coffee if you come to the city. There are real people behind all these handles. smile

I mean, it’s up to you with regards to the piano. It seems like it is your dream to own a M&H 50, I’m just trying to help in some small way.

I have 4-6 months of waiting ahead of me.

The Model 50 on Craigslist looks very promising - and the price seems more than fair. Just need to point out, however, that contrary to what the ad states, the Model 50 does not have a full Renner action. M&H was building its own action at the time using action parts from various sources - including Renner Blue hammers. Utimately what matters is how the piano feels and sounds.

Altenberg Piano House in Elizabeth NJ and I think they will travel pretty far to deliver one - not sure about Niagara but they are great to work with.

Not a list, but a Google search for ‘‘Mason & Hamlin piano dealers’ displays a list of store ads. You might try calling M & H

For me Google ads returns only a list of non-M&H dealers, and the actual search results is all of used instruments, none by current dealers (damn personalized search).

The dealers mentioned in this thread (Merriam Pianos, Jordan Kitt's Music, Cunningham Piano and Altenburg piano) do not show M&H anymore on their websites, besides Altenburg which does, but then show a number of broken images on the relevant page.

I know COVID's been hard on everybody, buy hey..... (even on their facebook page, they posted only two things since NAMM).

Thanks, I'll see if they respond to my queries.
