It's just something about their policy that does not appeal to me
- buying full version engine you cannot choose any two pianos to go with that
- to get the upright as well, U2 or something, I had to pay extra to get that
- and if you buy lesser engine, and you buy a model, not all parameters of that will be used making it sound worse. You pay full price, but don't get full benefit.

Something greedy and very off about it....so I never consider Pianoteq...if the so have giveaways...

Stage comes with two instruments. Standard comes with three instruments. Does anyone know whether upgrading from Stage to Standard implies getting one new instrument, or whether it means having to select all three instruments (thereby potentially discarding the Steinway D, and the K2, which originally came with Stage)?

Yes !
Initially, Pianoteq has given only the choice between 2 E.Piano and Model D + K2. Now, we have the choice.

Concerns new purchases from 2019 onward. During registration, you can choose two instrument packs with the Stage version, three with the Standard version and four with the PRO version. These instrument packs are fully working whereas remaining instrument packs are available in demo mode for your evaluation. You can purchase additional instrument packs at any time.

After your purchase of Pianoteq 6, you will choose during registration:

two instrument packs with the Stage version
three instrument packs with the Standard version
four instrument packs with the PRO version

That seems to indicate that you are mistaken about their policy ...

Is 20% off good deal for Modartt, or should I wait till November?
I am interested in Pro or Studio, and might want to wait until P7 release.

Would the 1 year of free upgrades apply to P6 -> P7 transition?

It should:

"Each of our products comes with one year of free upgrades, from the date of activation, to any release of the same product. This includes any minor or major release of the product made within one year of its activation."

Thanks, Vlad! Ever so helpful. Standard seems like a compelling buy at this discounted price.

I'll give the demo a spin again and see how much this inspires me.

U4 and Steingraeber are on my list.

At the time, more than 10 years ago or so, it was to pick from a few chosen by them. You could not choose freely from the full range. And then if it was the U2 I really wanted was not part of these.

Good if they come to their senses in this regard, if they did. I did not check out what you could choose from.

Thanks for update though.

I went digital pianos instead, were like a crossroad which turn to take. And while on Yamaha I was not all comfy, but now with Kawai I am. It's recording purposes mostly apart for the fun of playing.

I never heard this before.

I got the impression they did not want those buying cheaper engines to just exchange presets with those having the Pro engine.

On similar type of products it's usually about what you can tweak yourself, and that is ok, I think. A cheaper engine does not allow as much parameters to alter yourself - all fair.

But if you pay full price for a model and don't get all string resonances or similar parameters - that is not alright with me. Less number of reverbs of similar is quite alright.

Just read up a bit how it is now - it may have changed.

the modartt website explains the upgrade vom stage to standard:

´This upgrade includes one free instrument pack of your choice, to be selected when registering the upgrade.´

Well, I think I'm sold.

I previously had latency issues with my MBP and NV10 and got a lot of help here but didn't manage to solve it at the time. Those latency issues are completely gone but now I have a ground loop that I need to solve somehow. I'm piping the audio from MBP straight to NV10.

Regardless, I blew past the Pianoteq 20 minute demo limit multiple times. There are so many fun pianos and possibilities here.

I'll probably wait till August 14th before making a final decision, also to maximize the chances I get the P7 update.

I guess when the iPad version comes, I'll be faced with buying it again.

I might suggest that it is you who should read up on it before coming here with negative claims about a product.

Or at least indicate that your information is based on things the way they were 10 YEARS AGO.

Since I have no intention to reinstate Pianoteq, it was a heads up for those that are.

I did not just bash anything, I strictly motivated also what I felt was bad.

Your "suggestion" could be applied to anybody writing in favour of any product too.
- with what right do you suggest this product and your review of things?

It's like being pro something is valid, and con not?
Forums are for sharing views of things.

And if not getting that after 5000 posts, maybe I suggest you stay on topic in threads and not going personal.

Those that want all positive info about a product, just talk to a sales person who wants to empty your account. No reason to search internet.

Does anyone have an idea how much it costs to upgrade from a previous version to the current one (once the year of free upgrades has passed)?

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. Modartt should offer me a free Pianoteq Standard for clearing this up (hopefully) but it helps a lot taking a close look at this table from their website:

Pianoteq versions comparison table:
PIANOTEQ
......................................................................Stage........Standard.................PRO
Included instrument packs....................................2.............3 ..........................4
Includes KIViR historical instruments......................X.............X...........................X
VST, AU, AAX, NKS, Standalone.............................X.............X..........................X
EQ, velocity curve, reverb unit..............................X............. X........................ X
Preset (fxp) loading.............................................X.............X..........................X
Piano model tweaking...........................................................X.........................X
Advanced tuning................................................................X..........................X
Microphones setting............................................................X..........................X
Loads external reverb impulses..............................................X..........................X
Thousands of editable overtones.......................................................................X
Note-per-note edit......................................................................................... X
Supports up to 192 kHz audio............................................................................X

Since the table becomes a bit skewed in the forum environment (no possibility to insert tables it seems) and I may have gotten it wrong, you can also view the original table on Modartt's webpage.

https://www.modartt.com/pianoteq

Just look for Pianoteq versions comparison table.
