I have started a vote on what themed recitals we should have in 2021. If you want to make your wishes known, check out the themed recital subforum of the ABF. Or go here.

Might be good to have a Ralph Vaughn Williams recital (his stuff is sublime) or a more general English (British) composer recital excluding the likes of Lennon/McCartney and Sir Mick . . .! There are guys like Ronald Binge who were so popular with those in the 50's which had a classical feel.
My own preferences.

I don't participate very often in recitals but I had an idea for a themed recital that's a bit different. It would be interesting to have a recital where everyone re-learns a piece that they played before. Maybe even have the earlier recordings for comparison.

We did this back in Quarterly #50, at least some of us did. Maybe we could suggest that for Quarterly #60, which will be soon.

I was planning on 4, just like this year. The month before the Quarterly recitals.

Sam, is there any way to re-PR with the addition of the "true beginners" theme. I feel like that's such a great idea, and so relevant for the ABF, if more people knew about it, they might include it in their votes, but it wasn't in the original list....

Thank you ShiroKuro! 💓

Voting is brisk! If you have a say in what themed recitals we have next year, go and vote.

We are planning 4 themed recitals.

Current leaders are:
Female Composers
Piano Transcriptions

But all the votes are too close to call at this point.

Of special interest is the new theme - "True beginners' pieces". How exactly that will work is yet to be determined, but I am guessing anyone can play, but it has to be beginner pieces. If this interests you, go vote for it!

Even if you have already voted, if one of the new themes interests you, go vote for it.

This was my idea Sam, and yes, exactly, anyone can participate but everybody has to play beginner pieces. For the experienced players it can be a bit of a challenge to make a beginner's piece sound beautiful or expressive.

I think it's a good idea but if you want good participation I would extend it a bit beyond grade 1.

I added my vote just now. I'm not sure if short pieces of music were ever a focus of themed recitals, but I added it anyway. I tend to enjoy the most both to play and to listen short character pieces, 2 pages or less preferably. Etudes fit that description too, but can be expanded I think.

Voting has tapered off - I will close the vote tomorrow morning my time (about 12 hours from this post) and present a schedule for next year.

If you haven' voted yet, go to the Themed Recital Subforum and cast your vote.

These recitals are in addition to the Quarterly Recitals. If your favorite doesn't win a spot, you can play anything you want in the Quarterlies.
