Hello. I have used a google and forum search for white pianos and can’t seem to find a whole lot of pictures aside from dealer and stock manufacturer photos. It seems this color does not seem to get a lot of love. I wonder if anyone has pictures of this style in a home setting that they would be willing to post? I am beginning the home building process so I figured why not build the house around the piano.

NO!

Just kidding. White can look nice in the right setting.
I prefer an off white or alabaster sort of shade to bright white, but to each his own.

If you do a google search for "white grand piano home furnishings" and then click on the image button, there are quite a few shown in homes. You can probably play around with the search a little to find more specific images.

I read many people saying that black is preferred color and much easier to sell than white. Anyway, my friend's Yamaha GC1 2004 is a glossy ivory white, and he got two pianos, his other piano (and much bigger piano) being satin ebony Baldwin SF10 (I forgot the model year). Both are very beautiful pianos. Yet, to my knowledge, almost 101% of the people (including me) who see his two pianos go "oohs" and "aahs" over that white Yamaha smile

Go to Pinterest.com and do a search.

It’s definitely eye catching. I’d personally be worried about getting dirty especially the matching leather bench. Maybe some people can maintain the fresh look. That’s not happening in my household with so many pairs of grimy hands, or sweaty legs😳 unfortunately...

Do most "white" pianos change to ivory color as they age? Or were they never that white initially?

HazyScorpion - if you are building your house around the piano and it’s gotta be white you will very likely have to order your piano. These days hardly any dealer offers white pianos in the showroom. Unlike furniture and kitchen cabinetry white is definitely out of fashion in the piano world. The other problem is white pianos are nearly impossible to resell. So, with that in mind, a black piano goes very well with white furnishings and can be the feature in a white room. Put a zebra striped rug (not real zebra of course) underneath the black piano and its gorgeous.

Because there are so few white pianos made and so few on sale, you will likely end up buying an existing piano for the cabinetry color rather than the way the piano sounds and feels. That’s not a good thing when piano shopping.

An existing piano can be refinished in white. A new piano can be ordered in white.

Best Wishes on your search, but seriously think about black piano with white furnishings because it would be significantly easier.

j&j makes a good point. Pianists buy a piano for its sound and touch after auditioning it extensively. A piano that has to be ordered may not satisfy on those very important criteria.

White pianos always look as if they have a yellow or blue tint to me. They reflect the color of the light that is hitting them. A black piano does not do this. So I would not count on that piano looking white once you get it into your home...

I wouldn't mind imperfections on a black piano, but flaws on white might drive me mad. Having said all that, many of the imperfections that are really visible on black could be very difficult to see on white.

In the past one problem with a white piano was the keys. If you had a white piano with ivory keys the white piano would make the keys look a horrible yellow. So it was a good idea to have a creamier colour for the body.

I had a white upright for a while. I wasn’t shopping for white but it was a good deal and it looked GREAT in the room. Much better than I expected.

I traded it when I went to a (black) satin finish grand. The dealer was rather surprised that the white had not yellowed, which I think is a common problem.

I’d rather have a walnut with a satin finish than the black. But either is ok. I would not personally want a white grand, but as a small upright, it was fine. Dealers have a hard time selling white ones, you might get a good deal.

j&j thanks for the idea. I see a a couple of white ones around my area but most photos seem to have to white pianos staged in a beach house setting. I’d like to see them in a more typically setting around my area. Funny you mentioned the zebra rug. I saw an old Baldwin vertical with a zebra pattern painted on it. It wasn’t what I’d call pretty but I considered getting it for my niece’s playroom. Figured it might peak a 5 year old’s interest but after she outgrows it I’d be stuck with it.

There's a kind of 1920s decadence about a big white grand. I see lots of gin, and the hostess wearing a feather boa. I wonder if you can see the marks from her dancing on the lid in high heels.
