Am wondering if playing--with the silent function on--on a mid-range or high-end acoustic piano fitted with a silent system will afford a better experience than playing on a high-end digital piano (since the sound we'd get via headphones on both types of pianos would be one that's recorded)?

I might have missed considering a lot of other things here. Would appreciate any useful information. Thank you!

If you have the room I think two separate pianos is the way to go.

For the price of a silent system you can buy a very nice digital. Benefit is you are not bolting electronics that will break/go obsolete on an instrument

that can easily last50 years.

Are you asking if the sound engine in a silent acoustic piano is better or worse than the sound engine in a digital piano? I'm not sure what you mean by "recorded".

On a silent system that is touchless you have the same exact action, a system that uses sensors can have bad effect on the action of the piano, the technician of my teacher installed 2 systems, because he was asked to, and since then he stopped because the customers complained about how the action worsened. If you can afford the touchless system, go for it or else you can buy a Yamaha AvantGrand or something similar from other brands which i suppose have such kind of digital pianos.

I cant comment for the sound cause it depends on the samples of the system and i would say more importantly the speakers/headphones you use.

No, not necessarily. A high-end digital piano (hybrid, e.g. N(U)1X or NV-5, NV-10) has the same type of action as an acoustic (grand) piano. And good silent systems (e.g. Yamaha or Kawai) will sound similar or the same as good digital pianos.

I third that preference. Although to be fair there are probably almost as many people on this forum who would prefer a silent piano to a piano/keyboard mix.

I fourth that idea. Plus if you get a really nice keyboard with collapsing stand and bench you can transport the digital to gigs or practice sessions with friends.
