Hi,

How do you clean the inside of a Yamaha NU1X AG keyboard? My young kid came over to me yesterday while I was playing and started talking to me; unfortunately, he was eating a biscuit and spewed crumbs over the keyboard. I vacuumed the crumbs up, but am worried that some have fallen between the keys.

On an acoustic upright I know enough that I'm able to open up the piano and get to the keybed, but I don't know how to do this for an AG.

The NU1X is a bit tricky to open although for vacuuming under the keys you might be able to remove just the keyslip which is the panel in front and below the keys. It’s possible it’s only screwed to the bottom.

A few crumbs won’t affect the piano since they will fall on the bottom. I wouldn’t worry excessively unless you feel keys... well crumbling over stuff smile

Is there a way to remove the top board just to have a look on the action?

Just playing my NU1X.
And love it. Cheers!

Three screws at the back and the top board slides forward and off.

From memory, if you want to keep going, including the front board and fall board to get to the keys for cleaning, it's a further 4 or 6 screws all quite obvious, after disconnecting the tweeters. It's straightforward, 10 minutes or less. The only tricky bit is lifting the fall board out, held in place by a slot fitting over a stud at each end.

If you want to remove the keys to clean below them, three screws hold in place the slim cross section with felt at the back of the keys (that your fingers might touch when playing). It's separate from the fallboard. The keys just gently lift out from beneath the action.

I still think you can remove only the keyslip to clean under the keys.
