I've run into a odd problem with my K300, in silent mode the damper seems to activate with almost no pressure on the pedal. (Just to be clear, that's silent mode, the accoustic dampers raise after sufficient pedal movement as you'd expect)

That in itself isn't much of a problem, but it seems whether the pedal is pressed all the way down or just lightly touched, then released, that the keys will often continue to sustain as though the pedal is still pressed.

Pressing and releasing the damper pedal again and it's back to normal with notes no longer sustaining.

Looking at the mechanics of this it looks like the ATX3 may be using a hall effect sensor to determine how far down the pedal is and this appears to have an activation point that's hair trigger atm so perhaps not quite reaching fully off anymore.

There are three screws on a bracket just under the accoustics damper let off adjustment wingnut as well as another two off to the side that are either for adjusting this or just holding it all together. It's not clear however, and I don't want to blindly troubleshoot an issue and make more problems for myself.

Is there a service manual anywhere for the ATX3 that might cover how to resolve this? As it has been fine for the last 6 months I'm assuming something has just ever so slightly moved but don't want to mess with anything without a manual to confirm this.

Actually looking at it further, it looks like it's possibly turning a regular pot.

Although still none the wiser as to whether this is an issue that requires a mechanical adjustment. I don't see anything in the manual regarding adjusting sensitivity for the damper.

Hello Gary,

Assuming that the instrument is still under warranty, my recommendation would be to contact your dealer and/or Kawai UK to have the problem resolved.

Kind regards,
James

Almost surely a Potentiometer issue. Has anything worked loose. The pressure on the pedal will alter the resistance of the pot. Has the connection to the pot slipped mechanically.
