Hi, guys, I was hoping for some tips in buying a new digital piano.
I used to play piano when I was younger but due to life circumstances I was unable to do it in the last 8 years. I used to play a Yamaha YDP-131, and since I had good memories with that piano I was thinking about getting a Yamaha YDP-144 or if it's really that much better splashing on YDP-164. My budget is under 1000 euro. Is there anything in that price range that is better than those two pianos and worth getting? Is there anything I should be looking at or focusing on when buying?

My playing skills are pretty basic and I'm going to be learning the piano almost from the beginning again after such a long time but I still wanted something that will last with me for a good few years.

You should try the great three i.e. the Roland FP-30, Yamaha P125 and the Kawai ES-110 and see what you feel about the sounds, the action.

I have a P115 a beginners keyboard. Like yourself my budget for a upgrade is up to £1000. The P125 has good reviews and used fetches around £500. The FP30 has some unusual features like the changing of sounds and no line output not for me this one. (i would love a FP7F seldom/ never see one for sale)
So I could afford a slightly better / expensive model, used would be a possibility.
I will watch you post.

If you are prepared to search the used market, you can get many good deals: a second hand Kawai MP7SE, a used Kawai ES8, Roland FP90, etc.

Instruments: Current - Kawai MP7SE; Past - Kawai MP7, Yamaha PSR7000
Software: Sibelius 7; Neuratron Photoscore Pro 8

FWIW --

Maybe I'm mis-informed, but I don't see the "upgrade" from P115 to P125 as worthwhile.

I think they both use the same action, and similar sound generators, and similar amps and speakers:

. . . What do you gain ?

£1000 should get you a DP in a better class -- a P515? a used FP-90 ? One of the Kawai's with a GF action ?

If you're happy with the P115's action, consider the "software piano" upgrade. A pair of loudspeakers, a computer, and a VST will get you considerably better sound than a P125.

The P515 seems a very decent instrument. Selling for around £1300 which is just over budget.

And the Kawai ES-8 (there have been fierce arguments here, over "ES-8 vs P515") is £1,168 from Bonners.

It is out of stock, however. The es8 is on sale for $1471.00 USD (converted), and you can get a P-515 for full price at 1500... and also, yamaha p-515 buyers usually use coupons like I did, I got my P-515 for 1275 USD. To be honest I tried the ES8 action vs the P-515 and that's why I bought it. I was fine with the ES8 piano samples but the action is just not suitable for the price of the ES8. IMO the P-515 definitely beats the ES8 in terms of value.

Finally bought the P515

How do you define the value of an instrument?

Not necessarily. Casio SA-21 has organ sound and P-515 also has organ sound. So if Casio upscales all the specs in SA-21 to match P-515 but keeps the voices the same should Casio SA-21 sell for the same price as P-515?

Chap on youtube favours the P515 for spec and decent usable voices. Larger louder speakers over the es 8 but he does seem to favour Yamaha slightly.
