I think her choice of attire is completely disrespectful to the composer as well as the audience.

How is it disrespectful?

I completely disagree with you. She is the performer, she can wear(within reason) whatever she wants.

I find it rather "fitting" for the music being played.

It's not so outrageous in this context, but imagine her playing profound works dressed like this (which she does).

I think she either wears her outfits simply because she likes to, she knows it will generate buzz and some will really like it, she thinks classical music needs a change, or a little of each. I find them inappropriate and I always think "Does she need to wear them because she's not good enough as a pianist?", but that's just how I feel.

I remember a performance at the White House, possibly at an inaugural gala, where both Barbra Streisand and Michael Jackson sang. Streisand basically just stood there and sang(although she might have had orchestral accompaniment) but during Jackson's performance there were many other dancers on the stage and probably lighting effects. I much preferred Streisand who could command the stage just by opening her mouth. Maybe it's an apples to oranges comparison.

Are there any YouTube interviews where she gives her rationale for her choice of attire?

It’s been discussed ad nauseum and it generally gets very contentious

laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh That was my first thought, oh man, not this again...

My second thought was that there is a YouTube channel called "Piano in High Heels" that seems to focus on the wrong part of these women's performances frown

I remember reading an interview in which she says she feels very self-conscious about being so small. When she dresses up she feels confident, and that her height doesn't bother her anymore.

Just minimize that browser window when you're listening to her and what she's wearing won't be an issue. Problem solved!

Classical Music is in the toilet. It's in the toilet, because of the very type of ivory-tower sexist snobbism exhibited by the OP.

Women can wear whatever they want to wear.

Unless the composer wrote instructions on what to wear, the performers can wear what they want.

My grand piano is a Yamaha C2 SG.
My other Yamaha is an XMAX 300.

She uses sex appeal to impulse her career.

In a free competition world such as we live in, she has the right to do it. Besides the audience already knows it, so if they keep buying tickets there's no disrespect to them.

Anyway i think it is morally wrong. And also there's a loose of artistic dignity. When you see those old recordings from Rubinstein, Horowitz, Gould, etc, you feel the dignity of art, like something that exists beyond time and enlightens the soul, and takes us to more profound feelings and thoughts than those of daily life. Yuja, plays divine, she's hot, and has a lot of succes. But the artistic enlightenment is not there. As showbusines is still better than going to a basket game or to lady gaga. Better, but on the same category.

Loss of artistic dignity ?

Mozart writing about licking A$$es, exploiting soprano singers sexually on the casting couch.

Lizst's Philandering

Bach's 20-40 kids by different women..

dignity was NEVER part of classical music.

I think there's a difference between what pianists or composers do in concert and in their personal lives.

I don't think it's a question of "can wear" but a question "should wear".

How is exploiting women by giving them parts in an opera in exchange for sex personal life as separate from their Mozart's professional music.

Double standard much ?
