Hello, I have got a white upright piano on the front cover it says "Diapason Piano CO." in cursive and yet in the box labelled "HERO"

That doesn't make sense. I have searched online for a while never been able to find the same appearance on any of the "Diapason" piano nor the make "HERO".

Even more the serial number was a black and white sticker inside near the right end.

I got this piano from a closing down music school.

I came across this forum during the searching of piano. My 8-year old son has been playing a lot of keyboards at home due to the stay-home situation. And we've decided to get a piano for him to
explore. I wasn't going to invest much as I am not sure how far the passion would go.

The sound of the one I got was not bad. But I am just being annoyed by this little things. Hopefully you can help me out.

Thanks.

Can you share some photos of your piano?

Am I correct in understanding that you've already got the piano in your home? How does it sound?

I am not sure if you could see them as I am still navigating the forum..

Yes, it was already delivered. The action sounds fine. There was a piano teacher help picking with me. It was late at night and the owner was trying to close down and he was not in the mood of sweet talk about the piano. He said on the market it would be selling around $3k. But he asked for $1K.

I think most Diapason pianos are some sort of low end Kawai product. In my experience they don't hold up well.

AliceNew, unfortunately, those photos don't show up (either here or by C&Ping the link directly).

This thread might help re posting photos:

Hi Alice, and welcome to Piano World!

Your piano is what is called a "Continental Console", which basically means it has no legs, leg braces or toeboards. It is a fairly common upright style cabinet.

I admit I have never heard of the HERO brand, but I have heard of the Diapason brand. Since the HERO is molded into the cast iron plate, the piano was likely made as a stencil by one of the many Asian piano factories, likely in China. However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Of course, I am far from an expert.

Since you have already purchased the piano, I would just play it and enjoy it and let your son learn and mature on that particular piano for a while, and then you can upgrade to a better one, if so desired.

As far as it being a "bad" piano, I've seen some examples of some well known brands that were not what I'd call good.

If it will hold a tuning and all the keys work reasonably well, just play it and enjoy it! Hopefully, you will solve the mystery of the HERO connection.

Good luck!

Rick

Ok, your photos are visible. But it's not possible to say much about the piano's condition that way.

In any case, what is it you most want to know? The background of the piano and the brand?
