Related to the other thread .,I mentioned briefly I thought that the fallboard of my piano was closing a slower than it used to especially lately. So the feelings behind the other thread was actually a little more "serious" than I wanted to reveal. The "cabinet technician"from the dealer kindly came and had a look.Taking the panels and the fallboard out, he looked at the small brass "lever"which lies just below the Sauter name on the fallboard.Behind the small lever there is a screw which he either loosened or tightened. This screw is in a narrow, small tube like hole at the back of the fallboard. The whole procedure was over in a few minutes. The fallboard now falls as it used to when the instrument was first bought in 2018. So no long waits while the fallboard descends and most of all no more fears for me that it may stick at a weird angle !

Glad you got your slow close fallboard adjusted, Lady Bird. Sounds like the tech adjusted the hydraulic cylinder screw. You can also adjust hydraulic door closers with a similar adjustment screw. But you gotta know which screw to adjust. Rick

But you gotta know which screw to adjust. Rick OK Thanks Rick I knew that brass button must be important. As the fallboard falls, there is a tiny wheel above the button which "rides" the button. However I do not have a clue how this all works. The only thing we noticed is the button (cylinder screw) had become rather stiff if one tried to depress it. I have actually been rather worried and have been leaving the fallboard up all the time in the last few days.I did not want too much pressure on the fallboard hinge area. Also I thought the dealer may have to order a new part from Germany. To everyone I am sorry for being so shrewd in the other thread about this fallboard mechanism "problem" I wanted to try and find out without any bias what people's experiences are with these mechanism's. Do other pianos also have a button where you can adjust the speed of the descent of the fallboard as well? Sorry the picture fills the whole screen.I also held the phone at the rather crooked. Is that DUST 😕 I see on the feldt ?

The dark shadow by the way is not a hole , it is a reflection of my phone.

Thanks the Retascal .,I am not really sure if guy tightened or loosened the screw behind the fallboard.I think he said it could have been caused by the humidty ? Well it has gone up lately but I do use the humidifier. He was a foreign gentleman so I could not really understand him very well.He said something about eventually something....oil ?.....dries in all these hydroulic mechanism's European and Japanese ,and it was it a "damper" (not sure if he said damper) he said needs replacing eventually .This would take quite a few years to develop however. This situation is unrelated to the problem I had apparently. When this happens the fallboard just falls .(gravity in control) He did mention he had just been working on a Kawai (I am not sure he said Kawai???) which however had also slowed down.He mentioned a few Yamahas which apparently now were just falling and they needed a new replacement part to restore the soft close. I am glad I have this screw that one can adjust the fall to any speed. At the moment I had him adjust it to moving quite fast when it goes down ,scary cat 🐈 that I am. (the idea of getting stuck suddenly at 45° .......not what I need.,not Likely !)

Hi LadyBird - glad your soft close mechanism is now adjusted and works properly again. Yay! With a high quality upright like Sauter, little things that occasionally come up, and there’s always a few little things with every new piano, are a simple fix. I’m happy for you.
