Kawai MP7SE Setup cutoff issue

Hi,

Can anyone with a MP7SE test and confirm if the cutoff value saves properly in a setup?

E.g. in the first setup memory location 1-1-A, I reduced the cutoff value to -25 on the sub1 Pad 2 sound and saved the setup.

I switched to another setup patch and when I come back to 1-1-A, the cutoff value on the Pad 2 displays -64.

I backup everything to a usb drive (sound, setups, system etc...) and did a factory reset. I still have the same issue. The cutoff value goes back to 0 or -64 but not to -25 I’d like it to be. This is really annoying.

Has anyone seen this issue or behavior as well?

I am on the latest system version that was released 2 weeks ago.

Thanks

Hello Jupiter16, my colleague in R&D checked this by performing the following operation:

Quote
step1. turn on the power in factory reset status.
step2. press [SETUP] button (1-1-A select)
step3. press [F2(SUB1)]button (SUB2: Beautiful Str.)
step4. adjust knobA: cutoff=-25
step5. press [STORE]button
step6. press [F2(SETUP)]button -> [F4(EXEC)] ->[F2(YES)] (1-1-A overwrite)
step7. press[B]button (1-1-B select)
step8. press[A]button (1-1-A select)
---> "cutoff=-25" is displayed.

May I ask you to try the same steps and check the result, please?

Kind regards,
James

Hi,

I did a factory reset and tried the suggested steps and it worked as expected. The cutoff value saved correctly in the setup memory.

I was puzzled as to why was it that my setup wasn't saving the cutoff value properly so I imported it from my USB flash drive into the keyboard to a different setup memory location (1-2-B instead of 8-8-A). Remember that the MP7SE was just factory reset.

I adjusted the cutoff value to -20 (SUB2 PAD 2) and saved the setup. I navigated to a few other setups and came back to it. The cutoff value was displaying -64. It seems like there is something with my setup. I saved the cutoff value to +28 and it when back to -64. I tried +7 and it went back to -64 again.

Can I send you my setup file by email so you can try it on your keyboard and see if there is something that would need to be fixed in the software to prevent this from happening again?

If yes, what is the email address I can send it to? Or maybe there is a way by private message?

Dave

Thanks

Hello Jupiter,

Can you upload the file to a cloud-based storage server (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), please?

Kind regards,
James

Hi,

Here is the link so you can try to load the setup "DAVE PIANO 1.km6" I am having an issue with, in another MP7SE.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0ykb9ybtyvpvcgl/DAVE%20PIANO%201.km6?dl=0

--> Here are some photos. We see that I set the cutoff value in the SUB1 zone to -24 (Pad 2)

--> I saved the setup in memory location 8-8-A

--> I navigated to a few other setups and came back to the setup 8-8-A

The cut-off value is now at -64. ???

I did another test where I set the cutoff at -19 and saved it. When I came back it was at -24. So as we see it doesn't save the value I want and doesn't always go to -64.

Thanks for looking at it.

Dave

Hello Dave,

Sorry to keep you waiting. I received a reply from my colleague regarding this point.

He checked your SETUP file (DAVE PIANO 1.km6) and found the following conditional behaviours:

Quote
1. If "Mod.Wheel assign" is set to "Cut-off", and that Zone is turned Off,
The Stored SETUP's is "Cut-off" is 0 (default).

2. When a SETUP that has "Mod.Wheel assign" set to "Cut-off", "SW1/2 Mode" set to "Mod.Lock" and "SW1/2" to to "Off" is recalled,
The "Cut-off" value will be set to the current Mod.Wheel position's value.

To work around this you can try the following:

A:
Step 1: Turn on that ZONE and assign another function except LOCK to SW1/2.
Step 2: Set the "Cut-off" parameter again.
Step 3: Store the adjusted SETUP.

or

B: Use a beta firmware update (v1.041) that resolves this issue.
If you would like to receive the beta firmware update, please send me a PM.

I hope this helps.

Once again, my apologies for the delayed response, however thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

Kind regards,
James

Hi James,

I’ve tried the workaround in A and it fixed the issue. Thanks a lot for your help. I don’t think I need the beta firmware yet since there is a work around and I can wait the official firmware release.

I’m glad this behavior/bug is being addressed by your team as it will make this keyboard even better.

Thanks again for your professionalism. It is great to know that the manufacturer stands behind his products and that this forum allows for us/customers to have a direct link.
