For fun - I've been reading through past threads, concerning some of the Tier 1 Uprights
Specifically, I'd be interested in opinions regarding the following Pianos:
Bösendorfer 130 Steingraeber 130 Grotrian Concertino C. Bechstein Concert 8 Sauter 130 Master Class
I'd like to hear personal opinions, from those who own, or have played, any or all of these Pianos. Particularly, if You're able to compare & contrast any of Them. Finally, if You like - Go ahead & rank Them, in Your subjective opinion,... or not
I'm excited to read Your replies - Any & all feedback is appreciated!

I have not tried the Grotrian Concertino, but the next two models down. And of their new products, I have only played a Sauter grand. So incomplete information— especially since the Bechstein 8 I tried was in another shop and might not have been brilliantly prepared.
However, if I were to pull the trigger on an upright today based on that, Bechstein and Steingraeber would be the most likely candidates, with Grotrian being worth serious thought— especially if I were constrained by budget.
Incomplete data, gathered with small amounts of competence. We shall see if I get a chance to try more samples after recovering some of my intermediate chops from junior high school.

Lubricati, You confuse 😐 me ? You have just bought a Bosendorfer 7ft grand ? I beleive the Mega dealer where I bought my piano from, even sells Bosendorfer 130 in Hong Kong ! I would think Bosendorfer' aesthetic qualities would be on your mind.

I get curious about Things
I’m very, very Fond of My Bösendorfer 280VC - It’s not going anywhere
Still - I’m interested in learning about other Pianos, in this thread, about specific Uprights
I had an upright before, & enjoyed playing it. The thought of having another, at some point, is a possibility

I've played: Bösendorfer 130 Steingraeber 130 C. Bechstein Concert 8 (although one from 1920) Sauter 1*2*0 Master Class You can find some (phone recorded) sound samples here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14GBvCyMz_wIW0EIyRL1irz3BIlfNxiV4?usp=sharingI liked the Bösendorfer best of those. It seemed the most well rounded piano from your list. Steingräber plays awesome, the sound was excellent but there was no "magic" for me. Well balanced too. The Concert 8 has an awesome action but the sound might not work for all styles of music. The one I played was very much on the warm side and not overly powerful. The Sauter has great clarity and awesome bass, it has all the ingredient but didn't click for me. I found it's the most powerful of the bunch. Can easily fill even a very large room. What finally did it for me was the Steinway V125, so you should add that to your list in my opinion. Action takes a bit of getting used to but is very very precise and the sound is both warm and clear. It's also the widest and deepest piano of them all. I've played one from 1938 (unrestored), ~1970 (completely restored) and 2018 (well... new ) - they are very consistent in sound and feel. Here's some sound: https://youtu.be/BDWOuA0AUgY

Use the serach, there are at least two threas with few pages - one is few years old and has 6 pages, and there was one recent in last autumn.. but use google search for hi-end, top-end, ultimate uprigt, these words will give you answers. In of of the topic there is much longer list than yours.

Lucbubrate Well I played a new Bechstein Concert 8 in Vancouver and another in a Paris both were magnificent. To me you cannot get better than that. This is the golden ball , the ultimate upright. The MC Sauter has been around since 1990, but you would be amazed what the other 130's have to offer as well. Of course as I said I would be in "Bosendorfer mode" if I were you, but perhaps you need a change of timbre. But try a Bosendorfer 130 please ! Best wishes LB

impossiblejj - I’ve used Google to search this topic & it’s been helpful. I think I’ve come across the specific threads You noted. However, rather than sorting through different old threads, to find information about these specific Uprights, I’m hoping to collate some opinions here
Of course, some of that might be redundant to what’s in the archives, but my guess is - A lot of what gets posted here daily, is as well. Plus, it’s fun to discuss these Things!
Appreciate the suggestion!

I've played them all, I actually can't quite remember them all except to say they were all good. Probably the Steingraeber with the magnetic repetition action was my favourite playing experience, but it costs *a lot*

Travel now is illegal now because of the virus! Oh Yeah - That! Yes it would not be fair to come here surely! We talking about people's lives.Lucubrate I do not mean anything personal against you. We do have a right to protect ourselves and yes we are scared. It is foolish not to be.

I don't find the Steingräber (here, have some free umlauts dear anglo saxon friends: ääääääääääääääääää ööööööööööööööö :p ) action noticeable better / faster / whatever than other actions to be honest. Yes, it is excellent, but so is the Bechstein, Bösendorfer and Steinway action. All good piano makers have made some tweaks to a "standard upright action", whatever that is, to make it better.
Maybe with a direct comparison you could find a clear winner... maybe. The one that beats them all if you ask me is the one on the Feurich 123 which is a dream to play.
