Hello

This is my first post. So after having my faithful Yamaha keyboard for many a year I think it's time I upgraded.
I am looking to play anything. I trained in classical piano.

I am looking for a keyboard which plays close to a real piano and is in the 500 euro ballpark. I am asking alot I am sure.

It will be only for studio use so I don't really mind about how the speakers sound or indeed the actual sound from the keyboard
as I will mainly recording with piano samples.

I did look at the Studiologic 88 and I know it has no speakers and is just MIDI.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you

500 euros will not get you far. Maybe an ES110 or a P-125?

Finally bought the P515

Like he said. It won't get you far.

BTW, the ES110 and P125 are above the 550 EUR mark. Perhaps the Yamaha P115.

But I wouldn't want one. These are bottom-of-the-line keyboards.
They don't feel like an acoustic piano, nor do they sound like one.
I think they're mean for beginner students on a budget.

What Yamaha is it and what are you expecting from an upgrade?

What's wrong with the Yamaha, if anything?

Good question, cloth-meister. It's hard to imagine a $500 piano being an improvement ... unless it's replacing a badly worn one.

I was just recommending DPs near the price range. Of course, you should also buy pedal and stand and piano bench.

True. I don't see what else you could have done.

Ah it's an old Yamaha, doesn't even have hammer action. So I think any upgrade would be an improvement haha.
Like I said tho mainly for recording with VSTs . I don't care if the digital piano sound isn't too good.

Yeah. Does your budget include VSTs, or do you already own some?

As others have said, the Yamaha P125 is in that ballpark. I have the P125 - and it's just okay. The keys are weighted, but that's about as far as it goes in mimicking the feel of a real piano action. It's certainly playable, but I mainly just use it for messing around in Garageband or practicing some piano theory - I fortunately have access to a grand piano for when I want to do any actual playing.

With the P125 it's tough to feel like you have a lot of control over the sound. If you're looking for something that feels more like a real grand piano, I'd recommend waiting and stashing away a few more coins to get something nicer. I don't have any recommendations - it's been a little while since I've shopped for a digital piano - but I just recall that when I bought the P125, there wasn't much in that price range that impressed me with regards to how it felt.

Speaking generally, I've been impressed with what Kawai has done with their hybrid digital pianos - maybe their pure digital pianos are worth a look too?

I would propose the Roland FP10. The keyboard is quite nice, PHA4. And it is quite cheap.
