I have just finished reviewing the complete Bastien Intermediate Piano Course to include all 4 books at each level. I am highly impressed and feel this is one of the most thorough pedagogical footprints at this level on a classically based approach. I can’t recommend it highly enough for a student who is looking for a clear and methodical path to move through the world of intermediate piano literature. I do not recommend to survey just the repertoire book as the core of intermediate literature is found here and the selections are not earth shattering. Where this course really sets itself apart is in the supplemental technical and theoretical books.

If you can’t see the forest through the trees, have doubts on the path you may be following with your current teacher, or have been self taught but feel you are missing some comprehension, this series is for you. It would be well worth the $30 investment to buy all 4 books at the first level and review the yourself.

In closing, I don’t work for Kjos and have no vested interest other than wishing I had discovered this series earlier on and wanted to pass it along to other pianists navigating the maddeningly long and arduous journey through intermediate pianism.

Musically Yours,
IP

Appreciate the recommendation.

There is very little information available online on the books but from what is online, the Technic book sounds interesting:

For the others in the series it is a bit hard to tell. Two seem to be various sheet music, another a scale book, and the interesting one seems to be the Technic book linked above.

Seems like there is a lot of material to work through though.

Is this set still in print? They are very outdated. I haven't seen these books in decades.

I have a Bastien supplemental book that I love. Great arrangements. I'm in the Faber books with my teacher but I really like the Bastien supplements I've been exposed to that came from Amazon.
