I wasn't aware. He was a unique composer. Did he ever achieve moderate success? I get the feeling that he is known primarily among music students and professionals.

He will be missed. I will be watching his website for more information.

I'm so lucky that he released more than a handful of recordings of himself playing. It makes interpreting and understanding the music so much more fulfilling.

I recently made a video of one of his etudes and will definitely be making more in the future. I only hope I can someday come close to his level of performance.

Unless I mention otherwise, I always like constructive feedback.

Yes it'll be a shame to have no new Kapustin pieces to look forward to. I remember reading an article after he retired quoting his wife as saying that he was still composing; he couldn't not compose. Don't know how much financial success he had, but it seems to me like he's a pretty well-known name to classical piano enthusiasts, whether pros or amateurs. Yuja has recorded one of his works on the DG label -- his fun little op. 40 Toccatina (see: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HBT7GZW/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp ). In fact, I was recently watching a Yuja interview/mini-documentary at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rkr35lJNqNc ...at 5:53, that is one of the pieces she uses to help make her piano choice for a concert.

It was very nice to see that Schott was publishing a good many of his scores late in his career -- prior to that, it was very difficult to obtain the sheet music. He certainly had an uncanny knack for channeling the very sophisticated Jazz and Swing piano music from the 30s and 40s, and was a prodigious pianist in addition -- easily the best salesman of his own wares! Requiescant in Pace, Kolya!

This is already a very high, professional-level performance. I enjoyed it very much. It seems your cat did, too.

Thank you for sharing.

It's a great loss!

His etudes are brilliant, I love them.

It seems that because of coronavirus still active in Moscow there will be no public funeral.
