Today Briggs & Stratton and Mason & Hamlin have announced a breakthrough in musical technology: a powered pandemic piano. This beast is intended to be the loudest piano ever built, and is perfect for future outdoor concerts that will revolutionize music-making in the current pandemic.

The director of the collaborative team that produced this piano, Clod deFussy, explained how this all came about.

"I was talking to my cousin, a concert pianist who went to one of them hifalutin' music schools, Jewel Yard or some damn thing," deFussy said. "He said he's startin' to do these outdoor concerts, and just can't play them quadruple-fortissimos in the Rachy C sharp minor loud enough."

"So I'm like, 'Dude, we gotta hook up one of our small engines to your piano, so it can move them hammers faster!'"

"And he's like, 'Dude, that's, like, a totally awesome idea!'"

The rest is history. Briggs & Stratton chose Mason & Hamlin as their piano provider, due to the presence of the tension resonator bars that run along the underside of the piano. These bars make the perfect mounting point for a small (5 HP) Briggs & Stratton engine. Through a complicated series of shafts and rods, the engine is connected to the piano action, providing extra power when needed. The pianist, or an assistant, starts the engine a few seconds before the ffff sections of the music by pulling a cable discretely hidden under the keyboard. Then the audience should be prepared to be blown away by the most powerful piano music ever heard.

The B&S&M&H powered pandemic piano will be available soon in fine farm equipment warehouses everywhere.

What about Yamaha? They don't need to collaborate.

I have a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower. It is excellent. Those who have attended one of my parties might have seen it.

Not to be outdone, the Germans are seriously considering a Hamburg Steinway - BMW partnership. The touchy fallboard decal copyright issue (with the BMW logo integrated into it) remains to be worked out.

Yes but its actually a recycled Boston in disguise with a VW partnership I believe.

I think they need to do it the other way round...

...if my lawnmower had a nice polished cabinet (and I could play music on it), I might actually get round to cutting the grass. I'd even wear a tux for the occasion. 🕺🏻

Learning to play. Consciously incompetent, which apparently is a good starting point. smirk

The only music playable on pianos produced in collaboration with the VW group will be Ein Audi.

Might Smith & Wesson offer a model that improved accuracy? In addition to being well-lubricated?

I just put new wheels on my 3.5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton lawnmower.
If I had seen this thread before I ordered them, I might have tried some of those big brass piano castors! wink
