Hi

It's really unfortunate that Garritan hasn't officially brought their CFX Grand up to date. It's still one of the best libraries out there and it's in danger of appearing orphaned.

I'm excited to purchase this library but am held back due to it's none support of OS 10.15 Catalina. I'm now looking towards Vienna Symphonic Librarys CFX

I know its about personal choice /preference, but In site of both the Garritan and VSL CFX, which would you say is the better?

Garritan CFX = More fun
Synchron CFX = More realistic

There are more libs worth considering than just VSL and Garritan (which are probably the best though).
Up to you and your budget:
Yamaha CFX: VSL, Garritan, NI Noire;
Yamaha C7: Production Voices, Synthogy, Chocolate Audio, EastWest.

The biggest challenge (and this is true for any piano model IMHO) is that virtual CFX may sound very different from acoustic CFX sound you are used to.

Is it confirmed that Garritan CFX is not compatible with macOS 10.15?

I use Garritan CFX with MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) with no issues.

I've only carefully listened to online samples, but to my ears the VSL is smoother and warmer sounding than Garritan. I don't like Garratan's ambiance, it's a bit overpowering to me (the room effects.)

I prefer VSL to Garritan too but you can actually turn off (or lower) the ambient mic on Garritan if you find the ambience overwhelming. I tend to only turn it on when playing through headphones because they do sound overpowering when played through speakers.

Just to be painfully clear, I haven't used the software yet but I'd really like to understand this more.

They advertise recording in Abby Studio and the room is a big part of their sound. If the mics picked up room dynamics (decay) I don't see how you can turn it off. If you switch to close mics only then you lose 'space.' In other words, the 'space' is colored and you can't un-color it. Is there something I'm missing? I hope so! smile

I look in askance at our building processes these days. There seems to be a dearth of solid walls whereby one might bash one's head effectively against . . . .

Hello just my two cents Garritan has a nice warm sound with an evenness over the keys I can depend on. The tuning is impeccable and the sustain is so realistic and just works great. Easy to get into playing with this software and the price was more than fair. I recently tried all the VSL pianos and own the Vienna Imperial. I just think the Garritan CFX is easier to play and control the dynamics and won't break the bank. MooganDavid
