VSL is offering FREE 30 DAY demos as an experiment. This makes it easier to try these pianos before deciding.

"Hi everybody,

4 days to go for our Synchron Pianos special offer, and another 19 days for the Synchron Bösendorfer Imperial.

So we have decided to use those last days to try an experiment: You can order a FREE DEMO LICENSE directly on the individual product pages (it's the third blue button on the left).

What you need to make this work right away:
1) An elicenser USB Key like a ViennaKey or a Steinberg Key, to store the demo license on
2) An account at www.vsl.co.at
3) 1 registered VSL product on that account

If you don't have a registered product yet, please contact us directly via support@vsl.co.at and tell us, which piano you'd like to check out.

These demo licenses work for 30 days/30 starts.
Once the 30 starts are used up, you can recharge them as often as you like by clicking "Maintenance" in the eLicenser Control Center (within 30 days).

DIRECT LINKS:
Bösendorfer Imperial
Concert D-274
Yamaha CFX
Bluthner 1895
Bösendorfer Upright

With best wishes from Vienna,

Paul Kopf"

Ill wait until you guys decide to use Ilok or something like it, instead of a dongle.

Do you know whether 'newer player' actually works for VSL? (They merely quoted what's on the VSL web site, and their profile states they work at Shivs & Shanks Ltd.)

He neither works for VSL nor has any arrangements with VSL or any other music business, for that matter. You will find dozens of offer threads in his history here.

Indeed.

30 days Demo trying is really a good idea. I will test the new BI on my system.

Got excited to try out those that I don't have but remembered I don't have a piano now and my Kawai CA99 will take another 3 months to arrive frown

Appreciate the info, but quoted sounds like a joke in poor taste. How exactly is that a free demo? Didn't they offer full money back anyway? The dongle was always the catch.

Dongles are nasty... hope these folks join us soon in 2020 from their 1980s era.

yeah, it's really unfortunate that you require that dongle... I would have tried them myself as well, but I don't want to order a dongle just for that smile

+1, I am really seriously put off by the dongle idea. That's also where Synthogy lost me in the past although for a long time they were the leading piano VST.

Same. I would have liked to try it, but no dongle. What software requires a DRM dongle nowadays? What is it with VSTs that this is a thing?

But at least the latest Bösendorfer is just soooo goooood that it's worth the dongle (I hate to say that...)

When I have time after swapping over my computer for running VSTs I'm going to give the Blüthner a go. Too many things to do in the meantime, but I hope I fit within the window of time to take up the 30 day trial. I did like the very distinctive sound of it but it just might not be worth buying, a trial might change my mind.

The dongle doesn't bother me, but I wish they would do away with it because it clearly is the number one obstacle for potential customers.

Why would I care how many people buy their products? There is no financial benefit in it for me. The reason I'm interested in them selling more piano libraries (especially to members on this forum) is so I can hear talented musicians play the same sample libraries that I play, and share their settings.

God Bless,
David

Many people have already brought up the issues with dongle to VSL. But instead of doing away with it, they came up with a protection plan smirk

Exactly my situation! Eight years of watching and hearing demos and bought my first Synthogy product only in 2020...

"No dongles" is the first parameter that forces me to pass.

After fooling around with 274D the past few days And going back and forth with their tech support, I’m close to giving up because it is very demanding of the hardware I am running. Overheating problems with an external Samsung ssd and the inability to gain stability using a 2017 i7 8550u, 16GB Windows 10 pc is asking a little too much of me. I think I’ll be happy sticking with Garritan cfx, which has been great and running without problems. But for those who are trying out the VSL demos, share your thoughts and experiences!

Maybe a Samsung T5 would be a better drive. It's not as fast, but it's fast enough, and I've never had it overheat.

There might be something wrong with your T7. These folks tested it and found no everheating issues:

In case folks from VSL read this thread, I just wanted to chime in and say the requirement of the dongle is a HUGE turn-off, especially when big DRM companies like iLok has already moved onto iLok Cloud, proving that hardware shouldn't be required for piracy protection. Native Instruments, Fabfilter, Toontrack, and so many other plugin/sample library companies do not require a physical dongle.

If VSL is serious about getting more potential customers, they will need to get rid of the physical dongle.
