I just want to point out that many Kawai dps are unavailable these days, obviously due to supply chain problems. So that should not be used as evidence an ES9 is coming. However, it may very well be that one is in the offing.

I wonder if the new Kawai es9 , will have a rh3 action or a grand compact like the ones on ca58..
I sometimes wish I had gotten es8, than my p515, its sound is really nice.

I've read in another forum about an ES9 in July / August 2020, could be true...I hope that there will not only be an ES9 (Maybe VPC2, MP12...?!)

May I ask, EVC2017, why are you unhappy with ‘yours’? I’m perfectly content with mine and have no interest in exchanging it with anyone. It has taken much therapy for me to reach this level of contentment, and in the process, I have learned to make do with what I have and stop peeking at yours/theirs!

Hi, Pete, clicking keys, despite replacing most of the contact strips. Sound so so. The only one I can bear at the moment is the SK-5, the others leave something to be desired. I might be somewhat unfair, part of the problem may be caused by my room, my ears etc. BUT I can say for sure I would not buy it again.
What I like in it is how practical it is, press on/off button and you are good to go in three seconds.

There were just too many reports of issues (both here and other places) and it was really hard for me to ignore. However sound wise, i think the ES8 sounded a little better to me both online and in-person but i just didn't want to take the chance with key reliability. I do also really like the sound of the Bosendorfer which was one of the main reasons for getting the P-515. That and the better reliability. Maybe Kawai will go with the GFC in the ES9. I really haven't seen people complain about the GFC so that might be a good choice. I think a GFC is very likely as Yamaha made essentially a portable CLP-645 (the P-515) so it would make sense for Kawai to also make a portable CA-58/59 to compete.
Currently: Yamaha P-515

I really doubt they will significantly change the RH-III action. Unless it is a drop-in replacement (size wise). Still...
I understood from some post recent (by Kawai James, I think but not sure) implying recent RH-III had some of the flaws fixed. So this ES9 (if it does come anytime soon) will have these fixes and some minor improvements with BIG MKT BS to make it much bigger than they really are.
Given the problem users have had with higher end Kawai DPs and a tape based jurry-rigged oops, engineered design, I would say about Kaway DPs, thanks but no, thanks.

I'm not sure there is any major issue with Kawai key-bed reliability. The issues---as far as I'm aware---centre around new boards arriving with defects that seem to have gotten past QC (quality control). Not aware of anyone reporting a Kawai action falling apart after 5 years---I had to repair my Yamaha every decade for wear-and-tear on the contact strip, so these things (minor upkeep repairs) are expected.. The RHIII action isn't a silent action but then neither are acoustic actions often. I guess some people like silence when they play.

Yamaha made essentially a portable CLP-645 (the P-515)... I believe I'm correct in thinking that GH/GH3/NW all share more or less the same action design and form factor, allowing a relatively straightforward change from GH (P-255) to NW (P-515). Kind regards, James x

No, we only share it among ourselves, it’s a very interesting leak with all that fancy design and new features, the close shots of the naked new action, the PCB-s, the leaked user manual and especially the leaked video of a test engineer playing it, so it needs to be kept a secret. But I’m wondering, you can simply go and ask your colleagues to play test the ES9 yourself, why asking us for information?!

Do you mean brand new action for Kawai or new action for ES9 from another series?

Oddly enough, James didn't respond, maybe there's some horror show right now at Kawai headquarters with employees being fired, a test engineer having his phone confiscated... Black ninjas flying on the Kawai assault fighter to Bulgaria to find me and shut me up...

Well, whenever we hear any news from Kawai then somebody start a new topic with the title "New Kawai action".
As it's then a new... well...action from the company. Such as releasing a press release.

TBH, KJ does give us advanced heads up to the extent he can, something very few in any industry ever does, and I for one appreciate it.
Every time he says "I don't think you need to worry about an imminent update" or "if you're worried about it behind replaced, you may want to hold off until after X event," he's doing us a huge favor.

What if they slightly revise the RH-III action and add some ‘wooden’ sides like Roland? It’s obvious that we’re obsessed with wood, so a little (wood) is better than nothing.
I don’t see how the “es9” will be able to compete with the P-515 and the FP-90 if Kawai does not show at least some wood.
Yes, the RM3II would be great, but I doubt they will do that because it would cannibalize the VPC-1. I mean, who would want a VPC-1 when the es9 (with RM3II) will give you so much more than just a good action (speakers, built-in sounds, dedicated stand/pedals, and yes, also controller capabilities).
....unless we first see a VPC-2 with GF/C, and suddenly the RM3II doesn’t seem so good after all; therefore, creating a real differentiation between the two models.

I don't think that any new model will come with the RM3II. My hope: MP-12 with GF III or II VPC-2 with GF II or I ES-9 with GF I or C Mark my words
