New video: Love Italian Opera! Episode 3 - Don Giovanni

Mozart’s genius & Lorenzo da Ponte’s poetry in one of the greatest operas in Italian: the thrilling story and tragic fate of an irredeemable scoundrel who still manages to inspire our sympathy. In this video we describe the plot through clips and images and explain the main arias, to make the poetic language of opera easier to understand.

I hope you don’t mind this bit of self-promotion - the video has no ads, and it took me a lot of time to put together, so I’d be very happy if somebody actually watched it! grin Thank you!

Thumbs up! Loved it. The Mozart operas are such an incredible achievement. He doesn't get enough credit for them. Keep up the good work of bringing them to the people.

What a great video! Don Giovanni is one of my favorite operas. I've seen it over 20 times, a good 6-7 of that having been live. So brava on your video.

Your title did give me a start though. Don Giovanni as "Italian opera"? I guess I never thought of it as such. But I guess as one of the few surviving dramma giocoso (in today's opera houses, that is), it is as Italian as its libretto. I also suppose in Mozart's day, most of the good operas were all Italian.

Indeed, opera in Italian would have been more accurate! But for Italians, opera is Italian, period grin Writing in Italian was standard practice at Mozart's time... but of course there are a great operas in German and French too.
