So ive bought a kawai es110 and at the start when i plugged it into my PC it all worked fine but now i cant fix it? Ive updated and downloaded its drivers. Ive connected the in to the out and the out to the in but my pc cant pick it up at all? I cant connect it to ableton nor see the keys being used on MIDIOX?
What is the issue here? my cables leds are not lighted when plugged in aswell? only the MIDI is red but the in and out is not lighted. Is it my cable or is there a setting i have to change on the piano to connect it to the PC? How the heck did it work before but now it doesnt?.... im so frustrated looking for answers and youtube videos but they only show to to "connect" it and im like DUH???.

Its nothing with cable since it worked at the first. I cant see my midi audio in my audio settings maybe something there??

Hello izumi,

May I ask what kind of cable you are using to connect the ES110 to your PC, please?
Can you perhaps post a link to the manufacturer/model?

By default, the ES110 is set to send/receive on MIDI Channel 01, so ensure that Ableton is also configured appropriately.

As a last resort, you can perhaps try the ES110's Factory Reset function, which should restore any previously stored settings to the factory defaults.
Factory Reset can be triggered as follows:

1. Press and hold the FUNCTION button, then press the topmost (treble-most) G# key.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James

It could be.

Perhaps the cable is faulty/temperamental?

That's up to you. It's certainly something to consider.
Where are you based? Which cable did you purchase, and how much did you pay?

We can consider the possibility that the ES110 is damaged.

James

A small multi-meter is a good investment.

Hi Izumi. If I understand correctly, you use MIDI-USB cable. Have you experimented with connecting it to different USB ports in your PC? Maybe something is turned off in Device Manager (look for sth with 'HID interface')? Also, haven't you switched MIDI plugs (IN/OUT) on ES110 side by accident? From my memory, I had some issues with cheap MIDI-USB cables in the past and i wouldn't be surprised if it's a 'guilty' part.

That's how things break. First they work and then suddenly they don't.

Apparently you are using a USB-MIDI converter cable of some sorts. Those things should show up as a MIDI device in the list of available MIDI I/O options in a MIDI capable application regardless of a device being connected to the the MIDI side of the cable.

If the cable doesn't show up then it's not working.

Even if the ES110 were broken the USB-MIDI adapter cable should still show up as a device on the PC.

Ive tried hooking it into different usb slots on my PC and everytime i plug it in i do get a pop up and a USB 2.0 connection on my ableton but i still do not recieve any sound nor input output connection sadly.... the cable i bought is this one http://tiny.cc/mdg6pz.
It is a cheap one which is true... But when i first connected it to my PC I couldnt make it work for a few hours of trying until i kinda made it work somehow and now i cant... If you guys have any good cable recommendations im down to try since im pretty sure it isnt anything wrong with the kawai (hopefully since i just bought it) but could be. It really wasnt this hard with my other midis/digital pianos and its really setting my piano training on hold KINDA ISH frown Thankful for all tips tho

You could open Windows Device Manager and fully remove the device, disconnect and reconnect and see if it works again. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that will work always, maybe the cable meets windows/pc timings the very first time it is connected and the driver is installed but further connections miss this timing window and the driver does not recognize the device and thus fail to provide the needed support. Just guessing.

I have seen several reports of people having problems with USB-MIDI converters like this and solving after buying better quality converters. I deeply regret donating my Roland (Edirol) UM-1 mark I years ago to a friend.

I would recommend sticking to branded items, whereby you can Google the company and find the actual product on the manufacturer's website etc.

Kind regards,
