Wigmore Hall noon concerts streamed live:
https://youtu.be/GwOdyQwX2rg

Stephen Hough plays Bach/Busoni transcription of the Chaconne. Followed by the glorious Schumann Fantasy in C.
Wonderfully played on a Steinway to an empty hall.

A great reading of the Schumann. And definitely live (that oh so treacherous coda!). And a big technical glitch in the final movement, unfortunately right at the climax of the whole piece! But the sound resumes and the movement is played to its heavenly end.
No audience, but still an encore: the Gounod/Bach Ave Maria as transcribed by Hough himself. Touchingly played. Very satisfying recital.

These concerts will occur daily throughout this month. Schumann Lieder scheduled next, as well as songs by Britten and Alban Berg.

That technical glitch right before the climax was such a disappointment!

This is the BBC radio broadcast, available for the next 30 days:

I only have time at present to listen to the latter part of the Fantasy's last movement, but it sounds fine.

Just in case anyone wants to listen to it without dropouts......

Incidentally, there were two mistakes in the presentation: one by the BBC announcer (rather oddly - the guy knows his stuff), the other by Wigmore Hall's captionist:

The quotation from Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte is in the coda of the first movement, not the "slow movement', as the announcer said; and as everyone knows, the encore is not by the famous Bach-Busoni but the almost unheard-of Bach/Gounod.

to be sung by the fabulous Lucy Crowe, one of my very favourite singers. I have remarked before that it seems impossible for her to sing an unpleasing note.
