Hi Folks~
I consider purchasing SENNHEISER HD 600 or 6XX headphones for my Kawai CA98, and I know their Impedance are both 300 ohms. Do I need to purchase a headphone amplifier?
In the two headphones, which one is better when using in Kawai CA98? thanks.

Hello harryhang,

The CA98's headphone amplifier is very good quality, therefore I don't believe it's necessary to use an external headphone amplifier.
However, the larger the impedance specification, the more power will be required to produce a loud sound.

I'm afraid I do not have any strong recommendation for one type of headphone over the other, as these things are incredibly subjective.

Kind regards,
James

The HD6xx is essentially a HD650, which I bought and sold a few times. I think it's easier to drive, and the warm and intimate sound should work well for pianos.

The HD650 has a somewhat darker sound (slightly more rolled off top end) than the 600 and 660. I personally prefer the latter two.

For reference, I own a HD600 and a modded HD800. I briefly owned a 660, which I marginally preferred to the 600, but I returned it the moment I listened to the 800.

My Kawai CA79 which has the same headphone amplifier like your CA 98 drives my 250 ohm headphones louder than I could listen to.
So you absolutely don't need a headphone amplifier, there is a headphone setting option to make the output louder. With that you're getting plenty of volume.

Hope it helps

I'm using the HD650 with my CA 98 and they sound great, no amplifier required. I usually have the volume at <50%, so more than enough power for me.
