Just came across this offer from AudioPlugin.Deals, but looking at a few videos, it seems it's an entirely different thing, playing a guitar VST, on a digital piano, than piano voices, internal or external.

https://audioplugin.deals/deal-1/

Disclaimer: The above URL will lead to a guitar bundle offer from AcouisticSamples guitar VSTs, when this post is created, and a for a few more days after that, but in future clicks, it will lead to whatever offer AudioPlugin.Deals will be advertising at that point in time.

$99 for four guitar VSTs is not much, but I want to ask, has anybody here experience from playing guitar voices with a keyboard? Can I just play like I'm playing a piano, or do I have to worry about, and learn about, guitar chords?

Apparently it's very different if you actually want to sound like a guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCKrTZtofnI&feature=youtu.be&t=92

Learn how to play the guitar seems faster and more accurate than mimic through vst. grin grin

@Otavio: Exactly! Guitar is to be played on a guitar, not a keyboard.

Or, if alternative use cases are to be accepted, shall we ...
- Drive to work on our recliner chairs?
- Cook dinner with a lawn mower?
- Wash the car with a chain saw?
- Wallpaper the living room with mouse traps?

Not planning on learning to play guitar, just think it's cool to mimic a guitar sound on the keyboard, occasionally.

There's no law against that. And sometimes guitarists play piano on a MIDI guitar so it's only fair that we get our revenge.

They also play saxophone on a MIDI guitar. Or a flute.

Where does the madness end? 😨

Of course you can play guitar sounds or any sounds using your keyboard for fun. To imitate any instrument and make it sound realistic, you should always at least understand the limitations of the instrument your imitating. If it's a guitar, you should at least know the highest and lowest notes the guitar can produce, how to imitate picking or strumming, chord formation (since a typical guitar only has 6 strings). Have fun experimenting but don't expect to fool a guitarist smile. I wouldn't pay $100 for guitar sounds either.

Thanks for comments, that SynthMania video is informative (didn't watch it to the ,end though)!

No, I probably wouldn't either (pay $100, or $99 as in the offer) for guitar sounds, though it's a big discount percent-wise.

I have a few guitars in Kontakt 5, which will probably suffice for the little playing around I might want to do with guitar sounds. Then there are some freebies around, don't remember names.

Toontrack have some great products, always wanted to get one of their pianos, but mostly for the song writing and chord/MIDI features.

I really enjoyed using the guitar samples that came with the free version of pro tools. Pro tools included a number of incredibly realistic guitars that were a real kick to mess around with. Unfortunately, once I upgraded my os to Catalina, pro tools stopped working. According to their site, a fix is coming.

I tried a few other guitar samples in fl studio, but nothing came close to the pro tools samples.

That's funny, I installed Pro Tools the free version on Windows 10, and it never worked.

It doesn't work on Windows 10, not on Catalina, Mac OS, I understand.

Is there a modern operating system out there, on which Pro Tools free version works? cool
