Advice sought: Kawai CA58 vs CA49

Hi all,

Hope you are all well.

As a newcomer to this community, I’m looking for some advice.

I’m pretty keen on buying Kawai and the above pianos have impressed my novice piano mind.

How do both compare against each other and would shelling out the extra few hundred quid for the new CA59 be worth it?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.

They all have the same action (GFC) but the CA58 has the better sound engine than the CA49 and the better speakers and more sounds. I would get the CA58 over the CA49. I think in this case, the better model from the previous generation still beats the "lower" model from the newest generation.

I have to agree with JoBert. I would get the CA58 for the better speakers. But if the little more money isn't a hardship for you the CA59 would be my choice. Mainly because I like the idea of being able to use an app to control the piano if need be. This is me, you might not care about this feature.

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

I'm in the same boat. But the main question for me is when the CA49/59 will be available.

Thanks all. Appreciated.

Jerry, I’m sure I read July but I’m not sure how it will play out in reality, with all that’s going on.

Hello mahoney67,

I'm inclined to agree with JoBert and would recommend the CA58 over the CA49, however supplies of CA58 will be limited.
The CA59 is the best instrument of the lot, of course.

Regarding availability, I believe the CA49 should become available from June, while the CA59 will be a little later.

Kind regards,
James

In my humble opinion, if you can afford the CA59, then go for it, the many extra features clearly worth the price.

In case not, then the CA49 still offers good value, if trying to get the best key action at that very specific price point is the absolute top priority over anything else

On the other end, and if price is really not an issue, then there's the CA79, which is probably the best value DP today (at least on Kawai side)

Thanks for your opinions. Unfortunately the CA48/58s are both sold out at my local dealer, and obviously CA49/59s won't arrive until at least July.

Does it make sense to stretch the budget to go for the CA79 (which I really like)? But I'm afraid to do so without trying the 48/49/58/59s, in case they are actually good enough for me at a much lower price point.

Jerry, I personally believe in the notion of "buying the best product that one can comfortably afford", regardless of whether that's a car, TV, computer, or a digital piano.

If you really liked the CA79, I think you could still enjoy the CA59, but might later wish you had gone for the higher specification model. Of course, at that price level you may also wish to (re)consider other models from Roland and Yamaha.

Best of luck with your choice.

Kind regards,
James
