Hi all,

This is my first post in these forums! Very excited to join this awesome community. I am a professional pianist who has worked across the United States for numerous opera companies, and I specialize in contemporary opera.

I am in the market right now for a new piano since I am totally without access to one due to the coronavirus, and I'm thinking a digital or hybrid piano makes the most sense for me at the moment, since I have a fairly small apartment. I am very strongly considering the Kawai Novus Nv5.

I will be needing to create a lot of recordings for work, and I have a favor to ask of anyone who owns one of these instruments. Would you mind posting an audio file of you playing on the instrument, using the recording capability built into the instrument itself? I want to see what the audio quality is like, and I haven't been able to find an audio sample yet of a WAV or MP3 file exported directly from the Novus Nv5.

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

The NV5 shares the exact same audio engines as the NV10 and CA98. You can find many recordings of those pianos online by talented players (see JoBert's channel, for example), and you can rest assured that this is what you're getting with the NV5. Of course, the difference is in the action.

I'm only a beginner, but I have a couple of my recordings linked in my .sig, if you are able to view that. Happy to answer any questions.

I thought NV5 had an updated sound engine?

No, the NV5 is based on the CA98 platform (i.e. same as CA98/CA78, NV10, ATX3/AURES).

Kind regards,
James

Oh. I'd mentally logged that something about the NV5 that was supposedly superior to NV10. I would hate to be the source of misinformation about these things!

All demos on the kawai page are directly recorded with the internal recorder.

You can check these for a first impression: https://www.kawai.co.uk/products/hybridpianos/hybriddigitalpianos/nv5/

Well, it does have a soundboard, which the nv10 doesn't, maybe it was that?

Yes, I wondered if I'd logged that as some sort of advantage to the NV5.

Although of course NV10 has the grand action so in a fight I reckon the NV10 would sit on the NV5 until it surrendered!

Grand piano action and a huge bulky body with a bit odd proportions vs upright piano action, soundboard and possibly the best looking digital piano. A tough choice smile

I owned the NV10 and got the NV5 later. All i can say is, that both have there pros and cons. The soundboard setup of the NV5 creates a more authentic sound image imho. The NV10 on the other hand, has a great action with on point control (NV5 also but it's an upright action and a bit slower). Albeit that i'm a bit in favor of the NV5 because there is absolutely nothing so far which made me upset. No buzzing noise, no squeaking pedal, no distortion on favorite changes. Everything is working fine. wink

When I read EssBrace's comment yesterday, I immediately knew that we would see this visualised by MacMacMac shortly after.

Even though the upright piano image is not an NV5, I was not disappointed. wink
