All I know by experience is that Piano Marvel sometimes responds badly or incorrectly to following notations:
1. Tempo: make sure that all tempo changes are removed, also somewhere in the middle of the piece.
2. Pick up notes or rest in the 1st measure
3. Change of staff in the middle of a measure
4. The notation of trills and triplets
Before uploading always compare your * .musicxml file with the original, note by note and ornament and expression symbols.
Always create your midi from your musicxml file, because it must be exactly the same.

I just wanted to prove this wrong by creating a score with lots of tempo changes, triplets and key changes!

I have said, sometimes, and in the meantime, the software has been worked on and problems have been solved.

Completed 'Heart and Soul' today.

I really enjoyed this one and I felt that I learned a lot. It taught me not to glue my fingers to the keys and to trust in my judgement of where a particular key is. It also taught me that I can play a lot quicker than I thought I could.

It took about 2 days of practice, slowly upping the speed. I got 100% in my first attempt in 'Access" mode. It then took me a few more goes to eliminate all the red notes.

Finally it took me another 30 minutes before I could play it with style smile

That's a great document, all questions answered. There is something that has been bothering me about PM for a while, I know you are busy, but ... Every time I want to look up something, either for myself or to help someone, I have to search for a long time. Is it not possible to organize and centralize EVERYTHING from Piano Marvel, all instructional videos, all lesson videos, all the song of the week videos, all the webinars etc ... on 1 web address? If everything could be found in one place, it was easy for everyone, now everything is spread on the internet, such a shame that all that useful information is so difficult to find. wink

Thanks! The “Re-pitch Tool” was pure gold! I thought my method was pretty fast, but with this new trick... the notes will be flying on to the page in no time.

The ability to upload your own score in PM is just a complete game changer. PM was good before that implementation, but now there is no competition at all.

Would it be helpful for you if I would make a slow motion video of the second movement of this Beethoven sonata?
Like a “lead and imitate” tutorial?
If you wish you could PM me.

I ask because I am building up some videos for beginning piano players.

That was really a showstopper for me when I started that. Now about 2 years later, I sometimes come across that in the SASR test and I get above 90% and it seems easy. I mean by that, the hardest things to learn give you the greatest progress on the piano path. Good luck! (look at the video)

I watched the video and to my delight there were no shortcuts.

I think I must be a masochist because I love these pieces. I can do it in 30 seconds over the required time with 2 wrong notes but that’s just where I want to be because I know that I can get rid of those 2 wrong notes and won’t be happy until I can knock 40 seconds off of my time.

My fingers will eventually sort it out laugh

I’d just like to say a thank you for starting this thread. If it hadn’t been for you I may never have found this app.

Thank you Treefrog, that was really nice to read. My path in PM is quite messy. The first three levels I did like a pit bull, biting and never letting go. And then level 4B "which child is this" came a song that I absolutely do not like to hear, and in technique I wrestle with two hands together, scales and arpeggios, so no combos for me. I'm stuck at level 4 ... but ... there's so much to find in the library besides method and technique that I'm focusing on that now, hoping to attack level 4/5/6 later. Ninja scales (fun), rhythm exercises, Bach scholar, Mikrokosmos, SASR getting 100% on all exercises, the Alfred books and so much more. Whatever you do in PM, you keep learning. P.S.I have a photo of a tree frog as a background on my computer screen laugh

I’ve just hit one of my least favourite types of piece and that’s the ones where your hands overlap.
For instance, at one place you play a G Major chord with the left hand and need to play the same D with the right.

Is there a rule for what to do in these situations? I assume that the right hand takes precedence as if not then I see no reason for even showing it.

If so, does the thumb of the left hand hover above it just to prove that it could have played it if it needed to? smile

If they are really written at the same time, I don't see why you would play it twice. If not, you can choose with which hand you feel most comfortable ... and yes, the free thumb should float a bit.

I'm a bit confused how the levels work - is it just the 1A-6E? Because it says with a trial account I can only play level one, but I have completed 1A-1E and started on 2A without a problem.

Do you remember Arabia and that it gives a lot of struggle playing. At least to some of us. Well... there is another one on level 5E though in Library section marked as level 6. Maybe that is why it gives such a hard time, though enjoyable because once it will be played well it sounds beautiful - to me at least. This piece is called Memories. Below you can see me still struggling with it but had to record to get some advice what to work on and how from my fellow more experienced pianist.

So enjoy watching and I hope you will not experience that hard time like me with it. Note: there is piece on level 5C (Canon in C). I moved from it too quickly not really mastering left hand on that piece and I think it would pay out playing that 5E - Memories - piece of music. So, just sharing my thoughts here, where I did a bit of mistake and moved to next level too quickly.
