Hello All,

I occasionally receive emails asking about parts and/or service for digital pianos.

Here is one I received this morning...
________________________________________
"The part I need for a CLP 150, it is a MA 120 assembly. If you don’t have this part can you get it or tell me someone who might have this part.
Thank You "

I'm personally not familiar with the resources for this, so I'm asking the membership
for some suggestions.

I know we usually discourage "promoting" businesses that aren't paying to advertise
on Piano World, but I'm thinking this doesn't compete with any of our current advertisers, nor
does it compete with my own online and offline store.

Thank you for your help,

Hi,

The way I have gone about getting repairs for digital instruments has changed.
I used to go direct to the manufacturer. I owned Yamaha equipment, and during the 1980's to 2008, Yamaha in the UK had their own technicians. You could go through the dealer, who would go to the manufacturerp; however, you could also ring the manufacturer and book your instrument in for repair.
This was convenient for me as I lived near the Yamaha factory.

Currently, most manufacturers don't have their own technicians to fix gear working in-house. Times have changed, less people buy digital instruments.
The manufacturers tend to have lists of repairers who contract work is sent to when a customer rings in or emails for help.

These contract repair technicians can ring the manufacturer and request spare parts from the part list. For instance, Yamaha parts are shipped to the UK from Germany.

That's how it works in the UK. The guy who fixed my Yamaha before I sold it, he also worked on Korgs, Kawais, Rolands etc.

For very old instruments, there maybe less spare parts available. Just like cars, you have to find a source for those parts:
1) Buy malfunctioning instruments and cannibalize for the part.
2) Look to sites like ebay for second hand parts
3) See if the repair guy can source it for you or create something that will work.

Most parts are shared by many models through that particular generation; therefore, parts for old Yamahas are usually pretty easy to get.

Kind regards,

Doug.
