Probably no surprise to anyone at this point, but I've seen several reports online now to dealers being out of stock of the ES8, and even one claiming Kawai is now stating it is "discontinued." I think what is left is when we will be seeing an ES9 (and is this the first DP that can be claimed to be "designed at home during lockdown" grin)

It might be the case that they just ran out of stock due to the production or the supply chain being shut down.

Yep, everything I've heard is hearsay thus far. But perhaps the stars are aligning...

Good point. But ... aren't pianos considered "essential goods"? smile

If they've run out of supply, perhaps they'll switch over to the new models when they resume production.

The ES8 is also (seemingly) normally available e.g. in many European stores and I don't see any major price reduction campaigns on it.

Do we really deserve to be teased this way by the likes of Yamaha and Kawai?

I’ve not been able to sleep since April 1st awaiting the long awaited CLP7XX, but no, they won’t even give us a peek.

Now, Gombessa brings this news of a new ES9 to make things even worse. wink

What next, ‘a potential NV-20 is lurking around the corner’? yet we have no idea how far that corner is!

I want my toys now!

My local Kawai dealer reduced its price on the ES8 since fall of last year, claiming they wanted to sell the inventory off in preparation for the new model.

I’m wondering what can be improved in an ES8 that won’t cannibalize CA and NV-series? The action is one of the best plastic actions, proven, having all the bells and whistles such as triple-sensors, counterweights, fake escapement, etc. They can update to the SK-rendering but it would be a bit odd to put the NV5/10 engine in a €1500 piano so soon. And so there’s nothing that can be added for a potential ES9. Apparently they don’t have yet an audio interface to offer, otherwise it would have been introduced with the latest CA-series, not with ES. Same story about binaural, etc. So, no, I don’t believe there will be a ES9 soon. Might be wrong smile

That is of course really good question. There's quite a BOM/form-factor change between SK-EX Rendering and HI-XL with the touchscreen, as well as the next step up in action (moving from folded plastic to full-length wooden key).

My (completely uneducated) guess? We'll see changes in both. Maybe SK-EX Rendering paired with a more traditional non-touch interface, which can then be ported over to a CA-58 successor (to prevent direct cannibalization from the CA-79)?

And a new action (RH-IV?) with whatever minor changes they deem appropriate (quieter, more linear grading, slightly longer key pivot?) to again prep for inclusion in the MP7 and lower-end CA successors?

And maybe if we see a VPC-1 update, it would then move to a folded action?! shocked

Well, I suppose if they omprove the quality factor, that'd be a spectacular first . . . .seriously, they now have the good looking P515; been around a bit now. All they have to do is make the new Kawai sound significantly better then the 515 as it stands and throw in a load of spiel to pad it out a bit.
P515's speakers aren't brilliant. Or shuld I say, maybe a bit too brilliant for many. The tweeters seem to weaken the sound in a way that single speakers don't. Cut off point incorrectly set?
We might therefore get a P515X following . . . .

Global stock seems thinner than usual, particularly in the US. Thomann and some Japanese retailers have these in stock so they have not completely disappeared.

I wonder if cannibalism is a greater threat than the P515. 🤔

Still, I have no idea what improvements they could realistically make.

You mean crossover frequency set too low? Maybe. I like those onboard speakers combined with studio monitors, they give you that nice bite at I'm guessing ~3-4 kHz where there is usually crossover frequency in monitors or any two-way system. I prefer playing with those speakers turned on, but volume set not too loud on piano.

ES8 is on the market for a while, way longer than ES7 was. If they want to make Roland's or Yamaha's users turn to Kawai I think they should make some brighter sounds, maybe improve the DX piano too to be more real and the other sounds like strings and pads. Rhodes is nice. I think the best thing Kawai can do is to assure higher quality level. I know there are many Kawai users, but I can see Kawai quality issues on forum most frequently. All the way from ES110 to top CA series pianos. Anyone seen Roland hammer action issue on forum in last time? Nope. Built like a tank. Yamaha? I can't recall a case. Kawai? Here you are.

Some certainly will disagree but my opinion is that the ES8 already sounds better than a P-515.

Are there ANY hints that the ES-9 is about to be released within the next few weeks?
I would hate it so much to buy an ES-8 or FP-30 now, just to see the ES-9 being finally announced two weeks later

I doubt any factories are producing pianos right now.

Why not ? Kawai just announced the CA49 and CA59. Wouldn't be that out of the ordinary to announce the ES9 as well...
