Casio CPS-7 Bought many years ago to take on holidays, and now that my acoustic is u/s it's, well, what I use. Does have a 'wooden' stand, definitely not the latest and greatest but is still going. Playing Chopin / Skriabin on it isn't such a great experience (having only 76 keys spring / rubber powered keys..) - requires a bit of imagination rather than close listening. Not really recommended, I'm afraid Oh, why? It is light-weight, has 'touch response,' runs on batteries, and, well, it was cheap.

Don't overthink it. Decide on what form factor you want (stage piano, keyboard, digital piano or hybrid) and how much money you want to spend - $200 or $20,000 or anything in between, and, if you can't try them out (difficult these days) just go for it. You get what you pay for. I have a Yamaha P515 and a Kawai CA78 and they are both great. YMMV

Roland FP-90 Bought it mainly for the key action. Don’t like the built-in sounds. Speakers are good. Bluthner Pro 88 Bought it for the sound output, both the piano sound and built-in speakers. Key action is awful. Doug M. listed the most commonly recommended good ones and simple advise as to various pros and cons. Nice to able to choose between such great instruments.

First piano Casio Privia PX-730 (used for 6 years) Second piano Casio Privia PX-780M (4 years and currently using it) Third piano Upright Bergmann (it was not good so I sold it) Fourth piano M-Audio Oxygen 49 (as a controller)
I got them because my piano teacher told my parents to buy them. I was still a little kid so yeaaah. Anyway, I'm planning on upgrading to Kawai CA 79 or a third-hand U1JPE and sell all those Casios.

Just had a Kawai CA99 delivered on Saturday. It had come down to the Yamaha CLP-685 or the Kawai CA79. Was familiar with the Yamaha line having had a Yamaha Clavinova 501 and it is a great digital piano. Excellent key action, great sound and many many additional functions and voices most of which I did not use.
I was already close to choosing the Kawai CA79 feeling it had a "brighter, crisper sound, the voices I would use and new bluetooth technology when Kawai introduced the CA99 this Jan with its sound board and speaker system that further enriched the digital piano's sound production.
So my rational was top quality build, realistic key action, great sound production, enough voices and technology all in a visually appealing piano cabinet.
Good luck. Many great digital piano options to choose.

I bought a Roland FP 30 last week. I had ruled out Fatar keybeds after trying one and I liked the Roland action. There is a larger gap between the black keys than on a Yamaha (the Fatar was the same spacing as the Roland) which is very important for my large hands. I don't have fat fingers, but I don't catch the black keys on the Roland as I did with my prior keybed, a Nektar controller. I use the Roland to input midi into Studio One. It was roughly 40% cheaper than the A88 MK2, which has the same keybed but not much else for the mark-up.

RD 2000 - Best action in my opinion, I liked their modeled sounds (used a high quality headphone to audition as provided monitors were awful), had a bajillion sounds I only use when drinking large quantities, modern computer connection (USB with analog audio over USB too). I decided to provide my own sound system as I thought the packaged speakers were not all that great .... this allows me to upgrade a component at a time. As Mac said, don't scrimp on the sound system..... The sampled sounds in these machines are way better than most sound systems that folks have IMO.

I recently bought a Kawai CA79.
I bought a Yamaha P45B in 2014 for when I went to University, and I had that up until last month! Before that I had a shitty super heavy digital piano from Chase (I think), and it had the noisiest action EVER! Anyway, the Yamaha served me very well, and it was an improvement on what I had before. I've been playing for just over 10 years, and I'm more of a hobby pianist than a professional one - that's mostly down to confidence and not knowing what I want to do. The piano is something that has been in my life since I was very little, and I really wanted something nice to play on. Casio GP range feel good, but the speakers are rather tinny to me, Yamaha CLP top range have a VERY heavy action, and Roland's LX-706 was a great looking piano, but again the sound wasn't right. THEN i heard about the Kawai from this forum I believe! The rest is history.
I don't have to fight the action to play it, the sound system is very impressive, and I've pretty much got my forever piano...well, until the day I am fortunate enough to purchase a grand piano!

Bruce, I may end up with RD 2000 if I win the auction on Ebay. Can you go into the sound system you're using? I think another user mentioned a headphone sound amp as well, any recommendations? Thanks !
