Hi everyone,

I've just purchased my first digital piano - Kawai CA-48. Overall, I'm happy with the instrument, the sound engine produces some hissing (or distortion) on high volume, but the sample of SK Concert Grand is warm and rounded and I really like it.

But I noticed, that a couple of keys are bottoming much harder than the others. I looked at the mechanism on photos from the "Grand Feel Clinic" thread and I can see green soft pad stripes going through the whole board. In my case it feels as if it wore off or something. The instrument was brand new, so, I want to understand if it's just a normal thing, something I shouldn't be concerned with (although I kinda now feel this difference in my fingers all the time, which is annoying).

Has anyone come across of something like this? Should I return it or can I do something myself without voiding the warranty?

Thanks,
Alex

I'd refer straight back to the supplier. Something is wrong and I think it's highly likely you would indeed void the warranty if you try and fix it - which you won't be able to do without opening it up to some significant degree.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely do that. In the meantime I found two more different issues with the keys.
Hopefully you can hear them:

I'm super disappointed. How on earth does their QC function? Such a good keyboard and instrument overall, but such a shame...

After these three issues and also after reading all these Grand Feel Clinic threads, I'm not sure I should ask for a replacement. The piano buying experience shouldn't be a lottery.

After seeing your videos, I've been checking all the keys in my CA48 while turned off and I've noticed that a full octave, 12 contiguous keys, is just a LITTLE LITTLE BIT click-y, while the rest is not. I didn't even notice it before.

Anyway it's very quiet and completely different to what louder "wreek" "wreek" sound you show on the videos
Don't do anything yourself when the instrument is new, and as EssBrace says, contact back the shop as that's not what should be considered normal.

Good luck also.
