Augustin Hadelich plays Chopin

I know this guy as a virtuoso violin player. His recording of Sibelius violin concerto is my favorite one and I’ve listened to many until I find the one that I really love, his! So, he’s one of the best violin players in the world right now.

I didn’t even know he can play piano! And he plays it so good! This Chopin nocturne is so well played, it’s amazing that a violin player who apparently spends all his time with his Guarneri can actually play Chopin with this fluidity. Apparently a top-class musician.

What’s even more puzzling is this seems like a YDP-144 😱 The entry-level Yamaha with the horrendous GHS keyboard. Very humbling experience... 😒

Yes, it looks a Yamaha YDP-144. He is good, but really is that the sound from the DP internal speakers? It's unusually bright and clean for a DP in that low price range...

I don't know which DP that is. But, that performance is very impressive indeed. So much emotion, dynamics, beautiful tone and phrasing - lovely!

Such performances make many think that they don't need an expensive DP - a beginner DP is just fine. While I don't agree with that opinion, I can understand why such opinions can be formed.

It seems YDP 143 or 144. I checked his other video and the cabinet matches. He probably spends his money on violins!

Really nice phrasing, especially for someone playing their secondary instrument!
I got to see him play the Shostakovich violin concerto with the Atlanta symphony last season and it was an arresting performance.
Abdol, I don't think he needs to worry too much about an instrument budget, as he plays a loaned Guarneri del Gesu from the mid 1700s.

Maybe you all saw wrong and it's actually a loaned Clavinova from the mid 1980's.

A priceless vintage instrument built by Japanese master builders!

Joe: Figured that his twice as expensive P-515 is not suitable for video lessons, because he needs a decent grand at least once a week to not lose all of his amateurish expression.

Augustin Hadelich: Hold my beer!

On his Facebook there are some other sparks too, for instance he played Rachmaninoff's Vocalise with himself. In his own words:
Quote
I miss playing music with other people!!!
Split Screen is a fun function on iMovie. In case you are wondering, I recorded the piano part first - I played the piano part while imagining singing the violin line. I don't think it could work as well if I'd recorded the violin part first, because all of the timings and nuances in the violin part are a result of what happens harmonically in the piano part.

It sounds like he's been playing this with himself all his life laugh (what did I just say?!) But yeah, he's a violin virtuoso and has been a child prodigy and survived a fire that almost took his life, so he's a hero in a way. No wonder he is a wonder smile

It's not a Yamaha; the console edges are too rounded. I'd suspect it's a Chase, or Gear 4 Music thingy. Doesn't sound bad imo. And he's playing quite far into the keys.

Exactly. And compare, also, the top. The Yamaha has a straighter edge than his. Might not even own it; maybe it's his grandddaughters . .
