Choose any white key, press it down and hold it.
Note the distance between the top of your depressed key and the other white key tops.
Now release the key to half of that distance and press it down again.
Did the piano respond with a sound?
How low can you go and still get a response?
My current synth action controller won't trigger a sound at anything lower than 75% of the distance.
Please also tell me which model you have just tried.

I am about to buy a weighted keybed, but of course, in the current situation, I can try any of them personally.
I presume that a good quality keybed will respond to a very low movement, but I may be wrong.
Anyone with experience of this is welcome to inform me.
Thank you for your help.

Yamaha P-515 with NWX Action
Total distance of depressed key top to action top 10.5 mm
Distance of partially depressed key top to action top while still triggering sound 6.5 mm
Difference of both, corresponding to necessary lift off 4.0 mm
(4.0 / 10.5) x 100 = 38%

What you’re looking for is the so-called “triple-sensor” action. Look for it in the description of the action. It allows for repeating the key with only a slight release from the bottom.

Acoustic grotrian 189 grand piano (I think it has renner action)

You can press the key all the way down to the escapement (you can feel where the escapement is, the key seems to hit something). And then still have a sound when you press through the escapement.

The escapement seems at about 75% of the full trave (so 25% from the bottom)l. Did not measure in mm but can do if you want.

Not to suggest that you are an idiot, but:

And not all tribble-sensor actions are the same:

Thank you all for your contributions. I will be purchasing a triple sensor piano in the near future.
