Having a hard time deciding between the big 3...
Roland HD704
Kawai CN39
Yamaha CLP645
I like the Kawai but the talk about the key issues scares me. Yamaha sounds great but the action is odd and the price is well above the other 2 and it only has 2 speakers. Roland is a pretty nice piece but I'm not 100% sold on the sound compared to the other 2.
I keep going in circles...paralysis by analysis I suppose smirk

Be your own judge and trust your judgement. There is a lot of talk about everything here. And there seem to be a lot of happy Kawai owners out there.

The CLP645 has 4 speakers FYI.

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

My understanding is that the key switch issue for the RH3 action was resolved by Kawai sourcing different key switches. You may want to speak with Kawai America digital piano tech support for more info. You would then of course still need to be sure you were not getting a piano that sat in dealer inventory for 2 years before you buy it.

You could consider a Kawai MP11SE with an action superior to the RH3 action and sidestep the whole issue. If you want it to look presentable in primary living space you would choose a stand and monitors that look nice and manage the cables appropriately. Or get an ES8 with RH3 but at half the cost of a CN39.

I think the HI-XL piano engine of the MP11SE, MP7SE, and ES8 may be more current and superior to that of the CN39 as well. If so, the extra cost and then some for the CN39 is going into the furniture. An ES8 and stand that looks nice would be your easiest and cheapest solution.

My chronological list of the top 20 composers: Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Schumann, Wagner, Verdi, Brahms, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Debussy, Bartok, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich.

Kawai is not an excluded brand from Guitar Center’s current 15% off sale.

ES8 - https://www.guitarcenter.com/Kawai/ES8-Digital-Home-Piano-1441723055616.gc (15% off $1649)

Matching stand not carried at GC - https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ES8BKstd--kawai-hm-4b-stand-for-es8 ($259)

Triple pedal with lyre unit not carried at GC - https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...01-triple-pedal-lyre-for-es8-gloss-black ($169)

Total cost: $1829.65 (if 15% off ES8 at GC is utilized)

My chronological list of the top 20 composers: Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Schumann, Wagner, Verdi, Brahms, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Debussy, Bartok, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich.

PS If ordering from Guitar Center sure an ES8 order is not fulfilled using an older floor model or customer return from a store, which can happen even with mail order. You want a factory fresh one, and may need to work with a local store to place the order that way.

My chronological list of the top 20 composers: Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Schumann, Wagner, Verdi, Brahms, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Debussy, Bartok, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich.

Do you need all the extras provided by Kawai CN-39?
If not, CA-48 could be an alternative with its better key action at a similar price (at least here)
The next step before CA-79 is CA-58, with a better sound engine.. for a price in between.
See comparison (at least such comparisons for the same vendor are quite informative)
