Beethoven 250th Birthday Recital is now open for submissions!
We're celebrating Beethoven's 250th Birthday!

Any music written by Beethoven is welcome, including solo piano, chamber music, and arrangements and transcriptions.

If you are submitting a multiple movement work, you will need to submit each movement separately. Please try to submit them in order, one after the other.

You may submit multiple pieces, and duplicates by different performers are fine

The recital will be posted sometime on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, which means that submissions must be in by 6AM US Eastern Standard Time, April 15th. Please note this deadline is very firm; I cannot start working on the recital until it is closed, and once it is closed, no new entries can be added.

Recital submissions must be in MP3 format. The maximum size of the file is 20 MB.

If you are new to the forum and the recitals, I encourage you to browse through a few of the past recitals to see what they are like. An easy way to find past recitals is to use the ABF Recital Index:

http://recitals.pianoworld.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Submitting Your Recording:

You will upload your mp3 file to the recital server as part of the recital submission process.

When you have your mp3 file ready, go to:

http://recitals.pianoworld.com/

and follow the instructions there. Please note that the software does not cope well with international characters, so please convert any such characters to standard American characters. Once you have uploaded your info to the automated recital software, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. You will have the opportunity to revise your submission any time up until the deadline. If you have any problems at all using the website, or if you do not receive a confirmation e-mail within a few hours, just PM me.

The recital website uses the following submission template to be filled out along with your attached music file. You may want to have your responses to these fields prepared in advance so all you have to do is cut and paste:

Performer's Name: {forum ID and real name if you'd like}
Where you are located: {optional}
Avatar image link: {optional}
Experience: {Yrs/Mos of piano playing experience}
Link to YouTube or other video: {optional}
Home page link: {optional}
Title of piece/composer:
Source of music: {sheet music, improvised score, play-by-ear, etc}
Instrument used: {Piano make, keyboard model, etc.}
Recording method: {audacity, Zoom, digital to PC, etc.}
Constructive technical feedback wanted: {Yes/No}
Additional Info: {Your thoughts on the piece, what you had for lunch, etc.}
By submitting a piece to the recital, you are certifying that it is a recording of your own performance.

You can revise your entries on the template (e.g., thoughts about your piece, adding YouTube links, and the like) any time.

Should you have any questions at all on what to do or how to do it, do not hesitate to ask. Remember, there are NO stupid questions, as we have a steady flow of new members in AB Forum for whom this is their first recital, so your questions will probably help to eliminate other member's problems.

Looking forward to hearing the recital!

I'll be entering a second piece. The second movement of moonlight sonata, if you are worried the usual suspects will be missing from the recital.

So far it looks fantastic, I'm so looking forward to listening.

Tried for that recording today, but no go. Fingers are fat and clumsy. I can tell it isn't far off, it just wasn't to be. I see the first movement of moonlight sonata is up, so I need to get the second recorded.

I've got a sloppy recording of my 1st movement and an ok one of my 2nd movement. Hope to do better, but I feel like the pressure is off somewhat now that I've got this

I recorded my sonata the last week in Feb, just before I played it in recital. I'm going to wait until just before I close the recital before I submit, so I will likely be last.

Apologies for the multiple changes Sam. I wanted to update my recording for the Moonlight Sonata submission and instead replaced the bagatelle submission with the Moonlight sonata one. I think everything is fixed now with the moonlight sonata recording updated and the bagatelle recording replaced again with the correct recording.

I was not able to get Pathetique 1st or 3rd up to the level I wanted to. I'm far too distracted with everything, but I did upload the 2nd movement and I got all of Op 2/3 done. Maybe at some point in the coming months I'll revisit Pathetique and try to record smile

It was still enjoyable to learn this piece, so it wasn't a total loss, just not up to performance level yet.

I think current circumstances impact our concentration, our ability to do focussed practise and disrupt sleeping etc. It can’t help but impact our learning. You’ve done well to submit what you have. I’m impressed. I am looking forward to listening.

Well, I recorded it prior to all of this mess happening, so I guess that helped. Still, I find myself drawn to play more as a stress reliever than anything else. smile
