Hello forum.

So im thinking about an upgrade from my Roland fp-10. I've been playing for about 6 months and feel like this hobby will stay for a long time, so i might aswell upgrade now..

I've been looking at the ES 8 and the new CN-29 from Kawai (they both look awesome) but im a bit confused as to what they have in common and what they dont. What would be the better pick here? i will mainly use it in my home (a small room).. Seems like they both have the same key action? In my country the ES8 (with stand, chair and headphones) is around 100 dollars more than the CN-29 bundle (same stuff included)..

I've looked at the CA-48 which i think look really good.. It's just a bit over budget. I guess i could wait some time and stick with what i have, and then get the CA-48. But the price still seems a bit high for me so dont know if i can justify buying it...

Either way i will go to a store soon to try it all out (also p515, clp, maybe some roland models if they have..)

Thanks!

Among these two, I'd recommend the CN39 wink due to better speakers. The CN29 speakers were already a bit better than ES8's, I mean in person.
The ES8 should have a better sound engine (longer samples), which I wasn't aware of when testing. Check if you can spot the difference in online samples using good headphones.
The keys on the CN39 were better than on the ES8 side-by side, in particular a bit less bouncy on key return - not sure if evolution or less mileage. Generally I think these keys are quite nice and I wasn't sure if the nearby CA models were better in this regard, though they obviously were different.
To me the Roland PHA-50 keys feel better, while I prefer the Kawai sound. I didn't like Yamaha P/CLP keys - but AvantGrand keys are a totally different story. This is very subjective though and you shouldn't really try yourself if you stil can! You can't test key action and speaker sound online.

Thanks for the answer,

i forgot to mention that i ordered a set of external speakers for my digital piano (edifier r2000db) so i guess the internal speakers in the piano wouldn't be important right? can you still use external speakers on the CN-29? if the sound engine is better in the ES-8, then maybe that seems like the overall better pick if i got external speakers?

Im definitely going to try everything i can get my hands on!

I have owned 2 ES8's and would be perfectly happy if I had one again.

Very nice sound (especially with headphones).

Excellent key action.

You will never go wrong with the ES8.

Thanks for the replies!

i will try the ES8 as soon as i can. The thing is that cn-29 is newer and actually cheaper.. Does anyone maybe have experience with both of them?
