It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
What pieces are you going to be working on during this lockdown? We all have more spare time now that before! I’m going through some Scott Joplin rags at the minute.
Currently working on: Chopin Military Polonaise Beethoven Sonata No.6 in F Major
Beethoven Sonata Op 14 no 1. I worked on this several years ago but want to approach it again and improve it. Who knows...maybe memorize it some. Debussy Girl with the Flaxen Hair. Love this piece.
and some etudes from the RCM level 7 book. Right now a Czerny.
Peace to all of you in this opportunity to spend more time with piano.
Mendelssohn Sonata in E op 6 Weber Sonata in C op 24
Had a look at the Kapustin sonatina op 100. Thought it would be categorically impossible but actually seems reasonably approachable. Might have a go at that.
I've also been looking at a Czerny nocturne, op 604 no 1 "L'Hommage". Can recommend these if you fancy going off the beaten track a bit. There are some not great copies on IMSLP but you can order a book of 17 pieces including the eight op 604 works by Editions Henri Lemoine.
Aside from a volume of Grade 1 pieces I'm working through for the 40 pieces challenge, I've just started learning "Hymn to the Sea" from Titanic. There's a few pieces from that which I'd like to learn.
Learned a couple of Beethoven pieces this year too and will likely learn a couple more before the years out.
Continuing to polish "Une Barque" and Rach Etude Tableau No. 5, and work on complete memorization before a total run through. Re-visiting Chopin Ballade No. 4, trying to memorize each section. Starting work on Liszt "Chasse Neige".
Played through the entire "Goldberg's" on Sebastian's b-day last week. Took over an hour and a half!
In celebration of International Piano Day, I just started learning Prokofiev's Toccata, Op. 11. Hopefully I'll be done by the time we are released from lockdown. Then, after I've learnt the notes and purchased the outfit, I'll be able to emulate this:
Being in a music group, I still need to work on 4 orchestral pieces.
Otherwise, I have 2 piano pieces including a Waltz and a Bach fugue. Just need some finishing touches. The other pieces are from the easy piano edition of Jazzy tunes like "Summertime", "Over the Rainbow" type of songs.
Many of us have more time due to the slowdown but I think on average most people would about the same as have been doing. Very few would say the take the extra time to practice music.
Bought the following new pieces with $100 gift card (birthday 3/18):
Nikolai Kapustin Toccatina, Op 36 Richard Danielpour Piano Fantasy (2009) Joan Tower Ivory and Ebony (2009) Deodat de Severac En Vacances, Vol 1 Fazil Say Transcription of Bach's Passacaglia in C MInor for Organ
Also received the following Christmas present from my daughter
Frederic Rzewski "The People United will Never Be Defeated"
That should be plenty of new stuff to work on over the the lockdown, and the rest of the year!

That's a great selection by your daughter. Very attractive music with some interesting technical nuggets to crack. (The more I look at that metaphor, the less confident I am that it means anything!)
The lip gloss is the least of my worries. I really don't think I can afford all that Gucci she's wearing! And I've never been comfortable in 10" heels.
I started Chopin Etude 25/12 right about when we got shut down and am hoping to get it passable but not perfect by the time we get out of quarantine. I have it memorized now but having some accuracy problems on RH descending passages in the middle at speed (the ones where it's all black keys). If I finish early I might check out some Kapustin and Earl Wild Gershwin transcriptions.
