I can see how this isolation could feel like a cool breeze on a hot summer day to a concert pianist. Thanks so much for sharing this

Fairly recently, we heard Mr. Hough give a wonderful rendering of Mendelssohn’s 1st piano concerto. The article was one of sadness for me as it just reminded me of the serious financial burden Covid-19 is inflicting on our local orchestra.

My chronological list of the top 20 composers: Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Schumann, Wagner, Verdi, Brahms, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Debussy, Bartok, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich.

Oh don't remind me. I was going to go and see him doing loads of Chopin and Liszt a couple of weeks ago right at the beginning of all this and it was cancelled. Gutted.

I'm fairly confident that when this is over, people will be chomping at the bit to go to concerts, having been deprived of it. Only guesswork though. I'm hoping that concept will apply to all kinds of social events.

My guess is people will be afraid to go to concerts for quite a few months after social distancing is removed.

Keep in mind that the main demographic at live classical concerts is over 65.
