Hey, I'm a tuner in Australia and I technically don't know where my job title sits in terms of who is deemed essential for work or not, I have however put a hold on work for the time being because of the amount of elder i tuner for and would hate to become a carrier and infect people by accident.
Sort of a mini holiday to put a positive spin on it.
How are you handling this plague?

I’m not a tuner or tech, but,

I’ve had a great week working on my 1926. Apollo baby grand. So far, I’ve replaced the capstan felts and hammer butt leathers. I’ve lubricated both with teflon. I’ve adjusted hammer blow, let off, and drop. I repaired a couple of broken hammer shanks.

Today I checked and adjusted hammer travel. About 25 of them needed shims. Then, I aligned the repetition levers/jacks to the hammer shanks. About 30 wippens had to be shimmed.

This project has languished for lack of time. I’m happy to have this sudden abundance of interruption free time.

I'm shut down for the time being and enjoying a (hopefully) brief tuning hiatus. Time will tell, I guess. Our governor ordered all non-essential businesses to close, and most are complying.

Hahaha, I've started refinishing an old guitar. It's a project that had been put on the back burner several years ago!

Hi LawsonK. Periodically someone from Australia will turn up here looking for a technician. Seems you guys are in short supply in many parts of the country.

Sitting home....me and the dog....it's as dead as a doorknob as we say around here (why we say "doorknob" is beyond me)....long days yes sir but like I always say there are "Better-Days-Ahead". So, don't lose the faith.

The Gov' closed down the plant (my day job as Electrical Designer) so started replacing the tranny in the pick-up. But they decided making "doorskins" was an essential business and called us back after a few days. Might finish the tranny soon... Still tuning, though.
