My teacher, a very experienced jazz teacher (also on faculty at a University) loves the Levine book. BUT, it's not a method book you can sit down with and learn. It's a reference work. As part of various lessons, we'll look at what the book says. So the Levine book is really only useful in conjunction with a teacher or for advanced student.

Burt's book are theory and improv books not piano, they are excellent. I haven't checked his site in a long time but Burt used to have a lot of articles based on info from his books for free to download.

The full original looks so : A fool sows words indiscriminately, but the wise gets the harvest. This is an old Tajik proverb, pronounced in Russian, which I translated into English. I can't vouch for the literary form.

Oh ....

Well, anyway .... now ..... "the wise gets the harvest" makes more sense.

I did not think a proverb uses the term .... "smart" .... they always use "wise".

And "goes to harvest" did not make sense. "gets the harvest" does make sense.

Note: If you are translating you really should not put that translation within quotation marks.

That usually means it is an EXACT quotation which can be found in literature.

You are not allowed to translate it and than put the translation in quotes because you may have translated it incorrectly .... which is what you did.

Holy Geebuz, this is about the most ridiculous thread-drift we've had here at PW yet. Can we please get back to talking about jazz books? ...
