If you look in the speed controls for Youtube videos, there's one called "WW" which stands for "Wim Winters". It plays the video at exactly 2.5x speed. I used it and he sounded great to me!

I don't know why people bother. He leads a cult as defined by: "a social group that is defined by its unusual religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs, or by its common interest in a particular personality, object or goal." Does one bother to argue with cultists?

Probably not, but it is fun and healthy to throw some contrary opinions and doubts into the consensus.

He's got 25k subscribers and almost 4 million views. And he has a patreon account asking for supporters. It used to be that you made about $1 per subscriber per year from youtube. But its not easy to predict. The harder you promote, the more you make. Maybe I'm being too cynical, but he has found a controversial niche that fits his talents and is doing what he can to make money from it. Nothing wrong with that. But he has to keep being controversial, which means new videos that generate views. He is making money from the channel. Probably not enough to support himself - he needs to get more subscribers. And every time we view a video it helps a little.

Everything Wim Winters has put out is garbage and his theories are the musical equivalent of flat earth.

I would agree that it has become a business for him, irrespective of whether he really believes what he says. Which prooves saddly that no matter what ridiculous theory you put out there, there are always people ready to believe in it, if you manage to do it in a clever manner.

All the more reason people should stop starting new posts in PW about him and his ridiculous theories. How many threads have there been in Pianist Corner now, in the past year or two - all about the same thing?

He's probably laughing all the way to the bank every time someone here sees yet another "new" thread about him and click on the link to his YTs.

I think fake news, like fake theories, like extreme political positions should not be ignored but counterargumented. That how we progress in knowledge. Ignoring them is not a good solution.

Look up past threads on this in PW - I've lost count of how many.

It has been done to death already. No point giving more publicity to his silly side show and misinformation, and helping to line his pockets.

I actually dont have any issue with WW making money with his site. He is obviously investing a lot of time into it, all for free (so to speak). It is the law of offer and demand. And there are some value add vid before he entered into his crusade, which I look at occasionally. Several of his new videos are in fact quite instructive and contain quite some materials which are factually true. So nothing wrong with looking at them. The issue is that he is turning real facts into wrong conclusions based on preconceived ideas and that must be counterbalanced.

There are a number of people posting counter arguments in the comments to his vids. Similarly I think it is healthy to say when his performance is poor so that that there is a balance of positive and not so positive comments. I think it is healthy to do so.
