And an update on the situation - turns out he's seems actually keen to learn. He is learning guitar and bought a keyboard already. Sent me a few songs he wanted to learn. Been trying to pursue him to find someone else but if it doesn't work I'll just do a trial class to see if it works and keep everything professional.

Oi I wouldn't recommend this at all. Just politely tell him because of your previous relationship it might not be a good idea. I'm assuming you both ended the relationship amiably because you are two can obviously talk, but this could just be an attempt by him to reacquaint himself with you. He just began music lessons on guitar and keyboard? Hmm. Sounds kinda fishy but you never know. If the songs he wants to learn are "How am I supposed to live without you?" or "All by myself" I would pass. At the very least have your husband know of the situation and ask him what he thinks.

This is a terrible idea but a fantastic outline for a Korean drama. . .

I know of teachers who now use a security camera in their studio. Students are made aware of it, as a protection for both the teacher and students.

I've known a situation where an amorous student tried to ruin the teacher's career after being rejected, and it's no secret that a lot of teachers took advantage of their students.

I find it pretty sad that you start from the assumption that men are wanting lessons to be around you, rather than, you know, wanting to learn the piano. Mind boggling.

I'm an adult man, my teacher is an adult woman, it's never been an issue. Nor would I ever expect it to be.

It's sad that people are starting with presumptions of guilt rather than of innocence.

Did you miss the part where this is not just any adult male, but an ex-boyfriend ?

Just because he's an ex doesn't mean he's a creep. If he's never been inappropriate with her, she should go ahead and teach him. Women have power. If he tries to say or do something stupid, stop him, warn him, and then act on the results. I think give him the benefit of the doubt.

Did you miss the part where when she finds out a prospective student is male she puts the price up to get rid of them. And will only teach them in a public place because she’s scared of them?

That’s how she seemingly treats all adult male students. Like I said from a presumption of guilt.

Install cameras and let them know sessions will be recorded. It seems kind of discriminatory to be a teacher and then purposefully raise prices to keep the ones you dont want out.
