What do you think of people who call piano pieces a "song"?

For example, "I can play several songs by Chopin".

Ban them from pianoworld?

A song has lyrics. Most of the music I play include songs, and I usually sing with my playing.

Most pianists/musicians call classical music a "piece". If any of my repertoire has no lyrics, I call it an instrumental.

However, y'all are right... there are different groups/factions of folk here on Piano World, and some have absolutely no respect for others who are not part of their group/faction.

Talk about boring? If there were no diversity here, which is apparently what you want, it would indeed be boring, and there would be no need to ban anyone... they would leave on their own.

Still bored? smile

Rick

Some of my mother’s lady friends were his biggest fans. My mother would have been his fan too if Liberace stuck to Classical.

Rick said: "A song has lyrics."

What if I play a Rachmaninov's "Vocalise" on my under-priced sky-blue Steinway, and include my own lyrics (Rachmaninov's "Vocalise" does not have lyrics. That's why it's a vocalise and not a song.)

Am I playing a song? A piano piece? A piano song?

Am I (a) Confused (b) a trouble-maker (c) both (a) and (b), (d) deserve to be banned from pianoworld.

Please take into account that I am from downunder. It's hard thinking and playing the piano up-side-down.

I think a "mid night blue under-priced Steinways "where I could play songs that sang would be......the greatest piano except for ?
