I can believe it. Maybe that is why I'm so smart and intelligent? Maybe? Or not? smile

My two youngest grandchildren, 2 and 4 visited this afternoon, and both had to sing into the PA system and microphone in my music room. And, they can carry a tune, keep time, and dance while they are singing! They take after their grandaddy... smile

As for me, I've been playing the guitar a little more these days, and writing more songs. Wrote 6 new songs in the last month and recorded them and posted them on my YT channel. I think I've written about 53 songs.

Some of my songs are better than others, and none of them are all that good, but they are original. . smile

Hi Rick,

I remember reading somewhere that music is artistic form of mathematics and physics. So it is logical that the ones who can understand, appreciate, write, or perform music would have to be smart smile

Very true!

I've always liked science, math and physics. I know just enough about it to know that I ain't all that smart! But intelligence is relative and we all have our specific and individual gifts and abilities.

However, I try not to brag on myself too much, but I guess it is a human weakness we all have, to an extent (some more than others:-). But I love to brag on my two sons and my grandchildren. Both my sons are very bright, and very successful in their careers. Both have bigger and better houses than I have, so that is a good thing. smile

Also, both are very musical and very talented, and from an early age. So, yes, I believe there is a definite correlation between playing a musical instrument, or otherwise being musically inclined and brain function/health, which improves our abilities in other areas. And, it can begin at any age, in my view.

Interesting topic!

All the best!

Rick

One of the managers I knew from work said that people with degrees in music were good mathematicians, which I thought a bit strange. When I took piano and music theory at the university on my own time a few years before I retired I understood what he meant.
Good thing the nuns in Catholic school taught me fractions. When you have to figure out 32nd notes, and how many of those plus quarter notes are in a measure, folks that never learned fractions have trouble.
I have read that to prevent mental decline I should learn a new instrument but I also think there’s so much more for me to do and learn about piano I just try to improve my knowledge of piano. Focusing more on the instrument itself. And play some harder pieces. And go through my music theory books again. I do have time these days.
