Hey everyone,

Can someone tell me the fingerings they use for arpeggios of the most common types of 7th chords (maj7, min7, 7, m7♭5, and dim7) in all keys?

In C I'm using 54321 4321 in the left hand and 1234 12345 in the right hand for all of those five types of 7th chords when doing arpgreggios across 2 octaves, is that correct? Could someone either write out for me or point to me a link that has the fingering for all keys? I can't seem to find it anywhere and my scale and chord books only cover the dominant 7th and diminished 7th chords. Thanks a bunch! smile

Since you need 4 fingers to play a 7th, obviously that is 1234. The only change is the starting finger which you can easily figure out by yourself if you already have the dominant 7th and inversions. There isnt any specific and different fingering. That said i see very little value specifically practising major or other type of altered 7th. If you can manage to play smoothly a dominant 7th, you would just as easily play any other 7th.

Surprisingly easy, barely an inconvenience.

Hello. Hanon Book II has the dominant 7ths and diminished 7th arpeggios in all keys (if I remember correctly), with fingering.

A couple of years ago, my teacher challenged me to start practicing the Maj7, Dom7, Min7, Dim7, and half-dim7 arpeggios in all keys. I accepted his challenge, but because I had never previously wood-shedded these, I figured I was therefore free to come up with fingering that worked for me. So for Cmaj7, Cmin7, and Cdom7 arpeggios, I use (starting on C and playing up):
RH: 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 etc; and
LH: 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 4 etc

Things change around when you start playing other keys. My Rule of Thumb is to always have the thumb on a white key. This works except for Ebmin7, where I am forced to put the thumb on a black key, and just deal with it.

I suggest you experiment around, and you will soon figure out what works and what doesn't

Hey thanks for your input everyone. I'll learn all the dominant 7th and diminished 7th and then work on my own fingerings for the rest if it's necessary. It's nice sometimes to just save time and follow a chart, but if I just gotta do it myself I can live with that.

The Hanon Complete book in 60 Exercises has dominant and diminished arpeggios with fingering in seven keys. You can get a cheap used copy on Amazon. It also has all the scales with fingering notation, along with the exercises.
