I zoomed in on my part of the world. It was odd, because in Ontario the dot went over Barrie, and there was nothing at all ever showing for Toronto. Yet I know that almost all the cases were in Toronto, and they seemed to have started there. Does that meant the cities themselves are just approximate locations?

Under "Map Options" --> "Geographic resolution", "division' is selected by default. For Canada, the divisions are the provinces, so each province is treated as a unit. So Ontario as a unit, Quebec as a unit, etc. I think Barrie was just a convenient point picked to be in Ontario and not that it was meant to imply Barrie is where the infections are - just an accident of fate when they picked a spot for the dot in the province.

For example, if you look at the "dot" in British Columbia, you'll note that is at some town called Fraser Lake. I doubt Fraser Lake is the secret COVID-19 breakout location in BC!

You can for example trace from whence the infection was brought to Ontario on certain days, etc., and even watch it like a video.

Thank makes sense. I did a bigger closeup and now it's in the middle of Lake Simcoe - poor fishies.

All these maps are beautiful, but I'd like to see just the number of new cases on a short day-by-day timeline for each country, and have countries charts sorted by the number of new cases. Suprisingly it seems there is no such a simple monitor available online.

This https://ncov2019.live/
is the closest I have seen. Current, with a percentage increase from the previous day, and the ability to display historical data

On the Worldometers site, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/, you can select many of the countries in the table to see numbers of new cases (and deaths) on a daily basis for just that country.
